suggestions for a nice meal in SD, should we go that route?
Re: Weemz
Hmm, I can't say I'm familiar enough with SD to give you reliable recs. We didn't go too fancy last weekend.
We had dinner at Cafe Chloe one night, which was good (particular the pommes frites appetizer and pancetta macaroni and cheese) and bad (choucroute was almost inedible). Other dishes we saw looked good, though. I think only that one was no good. I give this place a recommendation, albeit not a strong one. Service was spotty.
Our other dinner was at JSix, the restaurant at Hotel Solamar. I'd only recommend it if you're staying there -- you get 20% off, and, if you book on OpenTable, you can get 1,000 points. It's nothing special, though, although it's a good deal for five courses ($49, which ends up being just $39 with the hotel discount).
In the Gaslamp area, I thought Oceanaire looked nice from the outside, and Dobson's seems to have a good reputation for reliable American fare. I've also heard countless good things about Prado in Balboa Park.
thank you - I was considering the Prado per Kim's rec.
I'll look into some of those other places as well.
