butting in: huntington beach rental/lodging
Sorry to butt into your board....
I figured maybe asking a local board would help. I'm looking for lodging in on/near Huntington beach for 2 people. Does not need to be on the beach, but hopefully close to the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort.
Thanks in advance.

Re: butting in: huntington beach rental/lodging
there aren't a ton of hotels in HB, the nicest ones being the waterfront hilton and the hyatt. you might have better luck going north or south - seal beach, sunset beach, newport beach.
I would strongly recommend staying away from anything on beach blvd.
I've heard some raves about the new Shorebreak Hotel.

Ditto! But they have no pool-- not sure if that is an issue.
Is it price you are more concerned about or location?
The Shorebreak and Best Western are with in walking distance of the Hilton. Well at least I consider it walking distance since I walk it every day..its a little less than a mile.
The Shorebreak is tad (maybe by $10) less or more expensive at the moment for a basic no view room...considering its a brand new property I would stay there. I toured a sleeping room last week and they are amazing.
About a 4 mile drive away inland is a Howard Johnsons.
Remember that the Hilton only has valet parking. Meter parking is 10 minutes for 25 cents and to park at the beach all day is $10 (right across from the Hilton) so figure that cost in as well.
Or you can park on a residential street for free off of Atlanta and Huntington and walk to the hotel from there which is about a 1/4 mile.
HTH!
Thanks for all the suggestions!
I did look into Shorebreak, another good thing is they at least have a fridge in the room (no microwave though to heat up oatmeal before a race) vs. Hilton.
I might look into priceline closer to the date.
What's traffic like from HB and the other beaches mentioned?
Which race are you taking about?
Traffic from other areas is only heavy during rush hours.
It will only add about 10-20 minutes.
But that's if you are driving between 7:30-8:30am or 4:30-6pm.
In the A.M., if you stay in Newport, the traffic is the opposite way, If you stay in Long Beach you will be going with traffic.
I would imagine on a race day it might be a little hairy - let us know where you decide to stay and we'll try to give you an estimate.
if you want free parking and don't mind walking a bit, try to park on lake street.

there aren't any meters - obviously, you want to park as close to the beach as possible, but it still shouldn't be more than a 10 min walk to the hilton (on PCH & huntington street). most of the numbered streets will have meters. and if you don't have luck on lake st, try alabama or huntington st.
