Chicago moms - fun classes for baby and mommy and photographer recommendation

trying to help a friend find a gift..  she wants to get a gift certificate for either some type of class appropriate for mommy and baby (1 yr old) - like a music class or something else fun for 1 year olds.  Also looking for a cool photojournalistic photographer that will shoot baby and family.  They live right in city- by Michigan Ave- and do not like to venture outside of the city if possible.  any other cool ideas for gift?

  • Katie Ryan Photography, love her!  www.katieryan.com

  • Gymboree all the way...I taught gymboree for 11 years.  It is one of the greatest experiences for kids and parents.  They offer play, music, and art classes.  Each class runs once a week for 45 minutes.   Your friend can take her child for a free preview class, and determine which class would be best for her child (play/music/art).  I only taught play, and that is my favorite.  The kids just love to run and climb on the 44 pieces of interchangeable equipment.  Everything is on a mat, so if the kids fall, it generally doesn't hurt.  Now that I'm thinking about it, I miss teaching the classes and birthday parties.  It was a lot of work, and not only are the kids exhausted after, so are the parents, but it really was fun!  If you have any specific questions, pm me.

  • We've done the little gym thing too. It's just like gymboree, depends on the area and what's available to you.   You can also find classes at the ymca or other places like that sometimes too.   I'm not sure how the park district is there- ours has stuff like that too!

I'm an on-location photographer and would be happy to go downtown.  Here's my site:  http://www.lindsaypowellphotography.com
