Ideas for a day full of gifts.. anchorage area

Hi!

My DH's best friend is getting married and we want to do something really cool. We are from Maine and know nothing about Alaska. The wedding is in Lake Placid, NY, but the friend lives in Anchorage and is closing on a house soon.

What we're thinking is several gift certificates that wlil create a really fun day full of memories they might not have otherwise. When we got married we were given a sunset sail in Portland (ME) harbor and a one night hotel stay.

We were trying to find a sunset sail, but everything in Alaska seems to be large cruise lines. If anyone knows of a sunset sail company that'd be great.

Since we couldn't find that we were thinking a g.c. to their favorite steak house and now we're filling in the blanks.

What would be really cool that you might not do unless you were given the g.c., money, tickets etc... planetarium, zoo, a show, hot air balloon etc... we want to spend about $250 total.

websites would be great! thanks so much...

  • In this area, we have glacier or whale watching cruises.  You could also looking at doing a flightseeing tour of Denali.  Also, if they are in to fishing, you could look at booking a fishing charter - probably out of Seward or somewhere on the Kenai River.
