Thanks for all the help so far!
Do you have any cool restaurant recs? I know all of the downtown ones- Poogan's, Magnolia's, Jestine's, SNOB... but what about hole in the wall places? What do you know about a place called VooDoo?
We are open to going to different neighborhoods too, so Mt. Pleasant, John's Island, etc are fine too. We love all food, but I don't eat sushi.
Also, what do you know about Moonshadow, Pooch Island Inn, Wags to Whiskers, and Charleston's Happiest Pets in-home care for dog boarding/care?
Keep in mind my dog's breed, so we run into a lot of discrimination, but that aside, I welcome feedback or recommendations.
Re: **jsvb14**
no problem. after 2 years in charleston, i finally feel comfortable giving recommendations.
our favorite hole in the wall places are: sunflower cafe for breakfast food on hwy 61-owner used to work at joseph's downtown (josesh's is downtown on meeting st & appeared on rachel ray's $40 a day), bear e cafe-hwy 61, and red orchids-chinese on 171/7. i would have recommended amuse but i just read they closed down. al di la is my favorite west ashley restaurant with GREAT italian food. i haven't been to glass onion yet but i've heard great things. home team bbq also comes recommended. manny's has good greek/mediteranean food & good sports bar specials. my favorite place to grab drinks is gene's haufbrau. they have a great beer selection & tons of fun games to play to pass the time. the only time i've been to voodoo was after gene's to grab another drink. it seems like a nice place.
my favorite hole in the wall for seafood is the wreck in mt pleasant. bowen's island restaurant near folly isn't as good but i haven't been there for oysters yet which is what they are known for.
I don't know anything about Moonshadow, Pooch Island Inn, Wags to Whiskers, and Charleston's happiest Pets in-home care for dog boarding/care. When we've boarded Chance, we used Creekside Kennel on John's Island. DH found the place. Now that I read on the website that the owner is a AKC licensed judge & breeds labrador retreivers & cavalier king charles spaniels & she feeds iams, I'd reconsider taking Chance there again. Chance seemed to enjoy herself & didn't come straight to us ready when it was time to leave. Each time she was worn out after her stay. She did come back with some barking habits. Moonshadow from the website looks nice & well priced. I've often wondered about fetch doggie day care on hwy 61 near 526 but i can't seem to find anything online about them.
Pet Helpers on Folly Rd or the Charleston Animal Society (formerly John Ancrum SPCA shelter in North Chuck) www.charlestonanimalsociety.org might be able to give you some recommendations.
March 2011 moved to WA from Charleston, SC

Wow, thank you!
Yes, I might skip Creekside based on those things. Oy!
I' so glad for some of your drink and dine recs- we are going to check out some local places this weekend but had no idea where to begin. So this is helpful!
I have heard a lot about The Wreck- I think someone on Travel recommended that as well.
Thanks so much!
just had to butt in on the wreck... AMAZING. it was rec'd to us and was one of the first places we tried, just dont' forget your bug spray! i got eaten alive when we ate there.
oh and, it's kind of hard to find, if you're not really looking for it, you could miss it- def plug it into your navi if you have one.. tahts the only way I would have made it!
