Hi!

Quick question for you! I was doing my weekly grocery shopping yesterday at Henry's (I do most of it at Henry's and TJ's) and thinking to myself "Man, I'm really going to miss shopping here!" They just re-did the Henry's in Escondido and it's HUGE and I love it! Are there grocery stores in Portland that are like Henry's? (local/cheap produce, all natural foods and products, etc.) I imagine so, but it's not a co-op, and not a large chain like Whole Foods....sort of an in between

Re: ***Sixlette***********

  • I'm not Sixlette but thought I might reply anyway. My H and I were just visiting friends in SD in March and she took us to her favorite grocery store down there. I don't remember what it was called but it was a natural foods type of a store but not like a huge Whole Foods deal. She lives in Cardiff and it was right in that area. Anyway, we have New Seasons here that is the home town favorite for many. I wouldn't say it's cheap but their tagline is "Friendliest Store in Town" and it's true. They are definitely the in between of Co-Op (which we also have plenty of, along with farmer's markets) and Whole Foods.

  • Oh! I know that market-it's Seaside Market and it's great, but too expensive for me! What I like about Henry's is that they have great deals on local produce/in season, which I guess I can get at a farmers market.l Also, they don't have a single item with HFCS,  etc so you really can't get many "main stream" brands. Also, if you shop  their sales/store brand stuff, it is cheap! I actually think WF bought Henry's, but WF is too expensive for me.  Guess I'll have to check out New Seasons when I'm up there!

  • sorry I'm so late on replying.  I don't check this board often.  I live in Eugene and there is Market of Choice, it's like henry's with the bulk foods and everything.  I also love the Saturday farmers market.  PM me if you have any questions.  I'll answer them sooner.
