My sister is getting married next year. They have opted to have a courthouse marriage and then just have a big party to celebrate and to save a little money.
Any suggestions on places to have something like this without the wedding type costs? She wants beach/tropical feeling or even something more modern in an unexpected location. She doesn't want a standard banquet hall/room in a hotel or country club.
Anyone have anything to suggest? The party will be February/March timeframe.

Re: Need party place ideas
The only thing I can think of is Buena Vista Watersports/Paradise Cove. It's a really nice outdoor venue with a tropical feel. here is a link: http://www.bvwatersports.com/2005/index.shtml
I have been to a corporate party there and it was a lot of fun. Good luck!
What about latitudes downtown, the rooftop bar. Although they can't bring there own alcohol they can bring there own food... I went to a surprise 40th birthday party last year and they had Tijuana flats catered in... I believe the party started at 7, and paying customers didn't show up to the bar until about 9 or 10.... that way everyone can stay as long or as little.
I would also check some of the other bars and clubs downtown.
We also had a friend have an afternon reception at Gargi's Lakeside.... food & 2 drinks per person for about 100 people was about $4k.... they had a dj too and dancing was done on the patio!
They could go the very inexpensive route and rent out a clubhouse at an apartment complex or neighborhood.
Highland Manor in Apopka is gorgeous, and very reasonable. It used to be The Captain and the Cowboy.
If you do look into it, make sure you ask to meet with Toni, and NOT Cassie. Cassie didn't have answers to a lot of our questions, told us that we might be charged for things that weren't in the contract, and was just overall very unprofessional.
Toni, on the other hand, threw in a Champagne Toast, and a signature cocktail, and got the cost down to $2 less per person. She is amazing!
