Internet Service Providers
We are shopping around for a new service provider because Charter is so darn expensive. Right now we are paying $85 a month for high speed cable internet and basic phone service. We tried Vonage a year or so ago, but it was impossible to be on the phone and internet at the same time.
I am in O'Fallon if that makes a difference. AT&T is not available in the area I live in.
Any recs?
Re: Internet Service Providers
I would call Charter back (that's who we have) and go to their "disconnect" department. Tell the people that you're looking for a promotional rate or something that will help you keep them as a provider but lower your cost. It will normally be a year promotional rate and then call back every year when it expires. I've been doing this for the last few years and so far it's worked. if for some reason it shouldn't work for me, i'd just cancel, because they want $55 a month for just my internet service. it's crazy!
I just did this a couple weeks ago and i'm locked in at $29.99 for the next year. a couple of times ago i had to sign up for the electronic debit of my account to qualify, but if it saves me $40 a month i'll do it. The last time i was paying $19.99 a month for a year! great rates and I really didn't even have to haggle w/them. I just asked for a lower promotional rate.
GL! let me know if it works!!
I have several friends who work for charter and the threat works. Per the higher ups, if a customer calls upset because of charges they are told to offer atleast one other lower rate. Keep in mind that they probably have multiple lower rates but with the amount of reports to the BBB against Charter, they are trying to do everything they can to keep your business.
Good luck!
