Grrr...Vital Records Department of Oregon State

I have been tryig to get a copy of our marriage license for 2 weeks now. Has anyone ever had a problem getting their copy?

Re: Grrr...Vital Records Department of Oregon State

  • How did you try to get it? I tried by mail and it took 4-5 weeks. This was their normal processing time (those government workers ;) ). It gave me a headache for sure. But if you go down there in person you can get it within 15 minutes.
  • I have tried through the email (vitalcheck) as recommended on the Oregon State website. Everytime I check my status online it asks me to send in a copy of my driver's license. I'm not willing to send a copy of my license through fax again to some unknown entity, so I am calling tomorrow morning. If that doesn't work then I will go down there. I just hope that I don't have to pay the fee all over again.

I am freaking out because I just hope to god that our officiant actually mailed our signed copy in when she said she did... and that the time laps in taking so long is because it's government stuff, not the fact that we're not married by law because they can't find our license. I am totally losing sleep over this!

  • I just went in in person and requested a copy and got it then and there...maybe that would be faster??
  • i'm conufsed why you have to go through the state. Should you be able to get a copy with the county you filed it with?? That's what we did and we got it instantly, right then and there.

  • I guess I started with the state because that's where I thought I had to go. So I called them (Oregon State Vital office) today and there is no record of our marriage. The lady at the vital records office contacted the county office of the county we were married in and they do not have the license either. Her next step is to contact the county that we got our certificate from (which I have already contacted and they cannot locate it either). I am almost to the point of tears. I feel so stupid for not doing this sooner. So stupid.
  • Uh oh, I'm sorry! I hope they get it figured out. After we got married I got two copies right away because I needed them for my green card application so I knew they had the information in their files.
