TQL anyone?

Anyone work there or know anyone who does? I have a phone interview today at 1230 for a sales position. ?It's only going to be temporary, but still wondering what the feedback is. ?

Thanks ladies!?

Re: TQL anyone?

  • I don't personally know anyone who works there, but through my work I do know that they have a very high turnover rate. So, that can mean a lot of things, but from what I have gathered, you really just have to be a certain kind of person to work there. With it only being a temporary position, though, my guess would be you wouldn't deal with a lot of the same stuff permanent employees do.
  • My friend's husband just went throught the whole interview process and was offered a job there, but he declined.  He said once you're out of training, the majority of the people are putting in at least 60 hours a week and you are basically on call 24 hrs a day. Also, once out of training, your pay is all commission based.  I can't say for sure how it is to actually work there, but I know I would not be liking the hours!  :)   Good Luck!

  • Ditto to what Dani said. You are expected to be on call 24/7 and ready/willing/able to assist in resolving any issues for customers no matter the time of day or day of the week. This means your cell phone would always be on.

I've also heard they're rather cut throat and (in my friend's words) "will eat their own young". So be prepared, commission based sales isn't easy or fun but if you're willing to stick with it you can do pretty well financially. TQL is growing for a reason.

  • I actually worked for a competitor of TQL for a few years, but we'd have to deal with folks there on occasion.  It is very cut throat!  I know a lot of people that don't last longer then 6 months there.  The industry in general is pretty rough and cut throat, but they seem to take it to the next level.  Oh, and get ready to talk to a lot of truck drivers. Big Smile

Hope the interview went well for you!

  • I know a bunch of people who work or have worked for TQL. ?I agree with the previous posts. ?From what I've heard, those who do well there compromise their ethics on occasion and work really hard. ?I have heard that those who do, make really good money. I also know that they are constantly interviewing because they have a REALLY high turn over rate of employees. The good news is that they do hire a bunch of younger workers, so, you will meet a bunch of people your own age. ?Good luck!
  • BIL worked there and was laid off.  He'd been there almost a year.  I do not know the reasoning behind all of it... but I think it had something to do with sales numbers.

  • My husband works there. Smile  He has been there since Oct. of '05 and is a Sales Team Leader.  He's doing very well....yes, he's worked his arse off, but it's definitely paying off.  I'd say he puts in a solid 50 hours a week.  Sales is the kind of business where you get what you put into it.  Hope it went well today!  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Feel free to email me too. amandakhenry at hotmail.com

  • My husband also works there.  He has been there since October of 2007.  As MrsMandaK said yes they work alot but thats the nature of sales, in any sales job.  You are on call all the time but all that means is if something goes wrong you have to possibly deal with it.  Yes sometimes we get late night calls but mostly we don't.

It is commissioned based but you do recieve a steady paycheck.  If your sales don't cover your paycheck then you acquire debt to the company which is called your draw.  The idea is that your sales will cover your paycheck or that overtime you will gain enough sales to pay off the draw.  Even more important that you have enough sales to pull a bigger paycheck.  But if you continue to acquire a bigger and bigger draw then they do let you go.  However from what my husband tells me most people know it's coming it's not like they pick and choose who they like and don't like its all about performance.  It might seem cut throat to some people because they don't think its fair.  But if you are costing a company thousands of dollars over a period of time they are eventually going to let you lose, that's just sales.

I hope the interview went well and as MrsMandaK said if you have any other questions let me know.

  • I know I'm a bit late posting, but from a female prospective it may not be the best fit.  My SIL interned there last summer between her junior and senior year of college.  She was sexually harrassed by numerous men on a daily basis.  It was absolute torture for her.  She was in absolute misery, but sucked it up because she needed the job for her resume.
