Summary
The Director, Federal Legislative and Government Affairs is
responsible for leading the Task Force lobbying efforts within the
federal level of government as well as acting as a lead in pursuing
federal agency level administrative and regulatory. This will include
but is not limited to lobbying Congress on LGBT issues and priorities
and working at the federal agency level to affect change to benefit
the lives of LGBT people.
Responsibilities
The Director of legislative and government affairs (LGA) will lead
Task Force efforts on major LGBT legislative activities. The Director,
LGA works on changing and enhancing federal public policy through key
identification of critical members of Congress on legislation and
proactively ensuring that the Task Force is informed early on all
congressional activity we prioritize;
Acts as key staff in drafting legislative language and ensuring that
legislative priorities of the Task Force are reflected in the language
adopted by congressional leaders sponsoring LGBT and other mission
critical legislation;
Builds and manages relationships with Congress, the Executive Branch
and federal agencies; to be a strong voice in the LGBT and progressive
coalitions with whom the Task Force collaborates;
Assists with identifying, developing and advancing key policy
initiatives at the federal level both in the legislative arena through
strong relationships on Capitol Hill, and at the federal agency level
actively supporting work to move policy change through rule and
regulatory changes;
Works with PPGA staff and partners in effectively linking and leading
statewide and local activities in key target districts and prepares
materials for statewide and grassroots efforts to advance federal
legislation.
Develops communications for e-advocacy campaigns and assists with the
preparation of press releases and other media materials related to key
policy initiatives;
Educates a range of audiences about key policy issues and strategies
through conferences, workshops, trainings and other public speaking
engagements especially during the Task Force?s Creating Change
conference;
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
All candidates must be able to enjoy a fast-paced workplace, multi-
task as required and be effective in developing a leadership role in
coalitions. The job requires the ability to follow all the federal
legislative activity affecting the LGBT community and prioritize Task
Force policy objectives as well as administrative and regulatory
policies as appropriate.
Other qualifications include:
The candidate must have at least two years minimum experience in a
leadership role with federal legislative activity, policy analysis and/
or lobbying at the national, state or local level.
The candidate must have knowledge and experience of federal
legislative policy, ability to form strong relationships on Capitol
Hill with members and their staff. She/ He must have an understanding
of the oversight committee structure in the House and Senate with
federal agencies;
The candidate must be able to multi-task federal focus between the
congressional activities, understand how to navigate federal agencies
and reach out as necessary to the current Administration;
The director, LGA must be able to work in a number of multi-
organization coalitions and to represent the policy positions of the
Task Force;
Strong writing, verbal and interpersonal skills, including public
speaking;
Ability to think through strategies to change public policy and
develop action plans for change implementation;
Able to handle and prioritize appropriately multiple tasks in a timely
and efficiently manner;
Ability to collaborate on projects with staff from other departments,
and a high level of personal investment in contributing to the
priorities of the Task Force;
Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary;

Summary
The Director of Institutional Giving will be responsible for the
oversight and implementation of the foundation and corporate giving
programs. A significant portion of the organization?s budget is
comprised of grants from private foundations. A primary focus of the
position will be securing corporate gifts and growing the corporate
program both nationally and for individual events. The director of
institutional giving will supervise an outside grant consultant who
will provide support in managing the current grants program and in
identifying and soliciting new foundation supporters to decrease the
organization?s reliance on LGBT-focused funders. In addition, the
director of institutional giving will work closely with the
development coordinator to solicit and grow event sponsorships for two
of the organization?s largest annual events ? Winter Party Festival
and the National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change. This
position will be based in Washington, DC.
Primary Responsibilities ? Foundation and Corporate Gifts
Direct and manage all aspects of the foundation and corporate program.
Identify and meet annual and monthly revenue goals for foundation and
corporate funding streams.
Research and identify prospects; implement a cultivation and
stewardship program.
Working closely with other development staff and local committees, to
identify opportunities for corporate support and solicit corporate
gifts.
Supervise all corporate giving organization-wide and implement a
system to streamline all staff and volunteer sponsorship efforts.
Establish, tailor and administer corporate sponsorship benefits.
Develop and implement a plan to grow individual sponsorships to
national sponsorships of the organization.
Working closely with a grants consultant, write and edit letters of
intent and full proposals; directing proposal conception and
development as well as ensuring alignment of requests with
organizational and project budgets and priorities.
Manage an active grants and deliverables calendar. Work closely with
the Deputy Executive Director and other department heads to submit
interim and final reports and proposal concepts.
Work with Board members, staff members and volunteers to identify
connections with current and potential funding sources.
Secure, attend and prepare the executive director and other key staff/
board members for presentations and meetings with foundation program
officers and corporate professionals.
Keep abreast of latest trends and developments in foundation and
corporate fundraising.
Ensure appropriate acknowledgement of foundation and corporate gifts.
Work as part of a management team in collaboration with the Director
of Major and Annual Gifts and the Director of Development Operations
on overall development efforts.
Support individual board fundraising efforts, report to the board
fundraising committee and the full board on a quarterly basis.
Periodic travel is a component of this position.
Qualifications
Demonstrated background in corporate relations and/or corporate
fundraising. Successful track record of raising corporate gifts.
A minimum of two (2) years experience grant writing. Experience
meeting with program officers of private foundations preferred.
Understanding and knowledge of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender (LGBT) movement, as well as current national and regional
issues affecting the LGBT community. Experience in other progressive/
social justice movements a plus.
High level of reading, writing and verbal skills.
Exceptional communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, strong attention
to detail.
Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and to succeed under
pressure.
Strong research background.
Self motivation and ability to take initiative on projects.
Experience with Raiser?s Edge a plus.
