Things to do near Portland?

Hi everyone!

My husband & I are going to be staying in/near Portland area for our Anniversary July 7th. We are having a hard time finding something fun to do! Can any of you Oregon-ers give me any suggestions? We are thinking anywhere within an hour or two of Portland...

Re: Things to do near Portland?

  • fyi, it's Oregonians.

You might check out the Oregongetaways bio.

What sort of activities are you interested in?

  • oops! I knew Oregon-ers sounded weird.

We love the outdoors, so anything like a bonfire on a good beach is always fun, or horseback riding, or outdoorsy stuff. But we also love a good play, concert, or festival. We're pretty easy to please!

So, any suggestion is welcome. Smile

There's also an amphitheatre in Vancouver but I've forgotten the name. Concerts are fun there (outdoor).

There's tons of hiking. Dog mountain, Multnomah Falls, etc.

You could easily do the beach in a day (Cannon Bch is close and easy and there's tons of hiking around there).

Definitely check the bio I mentioned above.

There's a bunch of festivals in Portland all summer. I don't know if there's one the weekend you'll be here but it shouldn't be difficult to figure out. The Brewer's Fest is the last weekend in July but there are plenty of others. Possibly the Blues Festival which is pretty fun.

  • The Waterfront Blues Festival will be from July 3-6 this year. This is always a lot of fun!

A few of our favorite activities when we have guests over:

    - Drive the scenic old Columbia Gorge highway and stop at a bunch of the waterfalls along the way

    - hike the trail next to Multnomah Falls to the top of the falls

    - Go up to Mt Hood and have lunch at Timberline Lodge

     - Another great hiking loop with lots of waterfalls is at Silver Falls NP, about an hour south of Portland

    - Visit Mt St Helens and the visitor centers

    - Go to Cannon Beach and have lunch at Mo's, drive 101 south to Tillamook and stop at the Tillamook cheese factory

    - Go wine tasting in the Willamette valley

  • All of the above plus,

Portland Saturday Market, amazing entertainment, and unique shopping.

Head to the Rose Garden's and Japanese Tea Gardens.

Go to council Crest for an amazing view.

Stop by the pearl district and have a Ben and Jerry's cone while seekig great art.

Go to Skyline Diner, and eat an great burger, and milkshake.

Drive the west hills for a  great view.

    Visit the Portland Art Museum.

Drive Astoria, and go across the bridge. See the goonies hous, and eat at Rogue Brewery.

Visit Pittock Mansion, and hike the area.

There are tons of things to do! But I'm warning you, you'll fall in love with the city.
