I apologize. . .

To Serendipidie (sp) and anyone else who thought my responses were over the top.  I seriously wasn't trying to be snarky or mean.  I was just trying to tell you that my issue living here has nothing to do with showers and ammenities, which is what you seemed to be assuming.  When we moved to CA it was for a job transfer and so we had no choice in where we moved to.  Now my DH is buying a business in Laguna Niguel and the house we found is in Aliso Viejo.  It might not be the nicest place in the world to you, but it is a million times better than where we live now.  Which by the way is Bakersfield. (no offense intended to those who might like it here, but crime and gangs have gotten a lot worse in the 6 years we have been here).

And truthfully I probably wouldn't have noticed the showers/changing rooms at all if we hadn't a) been to Mission Bay in San Diego so much in the past year because now I have something to compare it to.  and b) if we hadn't followed our time at the beach with a 3 hour drive home.

We had such a good time that we will continue to go regardless of the "ammenities".  And once our drive is only 15 mintues (which will be starting Wednesday) it probably won't matter at all.

More than anything I was looking for recommendations on nice beaches.  I'm sorry that I wasn't clear on that.  I think I got hung up on the other things, and didn't make it clear that I just want a nice beach that we can go to.  And other nice things to do as a family.  I am completely unfamiliar with the area, and just looking for some hints.

I promise not to take anyone to seriously.  I manage to do that pretty well on the other boards.  I am sorry for my reaction to the posts.  But no matter what I am really happy to be moving!

Re: I apologize. . .

  • Indifferent

so anyway, if you're interested in going to the L.A. area, i can totally vouch for the annenberg community beach house in santa monica.  there are nice big restrooms with changing tables for free, or you can buy a family pass for $24 which gets you access to the pool and pool house.  there's nice showers and changing rooms, plus lockers.  you just bring your own lock.

  • Just to add to your original question, my SIL always takes her kids to Salt Creek beach.  They just have the standard outdoor communal shower to hose off the kiddos.  I'm pretty sure they're flush toilets, but I'm drawing a blank right now for change rooms.

If I remember correctly San Clemente beach by the pier has showers inside their restroom (separate guy/girl), but it's still communal and there's flush toilets and a side area for changing, also commnual but within separate guy/girl.

I wanna say that Hungtington Beach might have a change room in the bank of restrooms at their various restroom groupings, but that's a total guess.

    Have fun exploring!

  • welcome!

salt creek is really nice, I know my friend takes her kiddos there quite a bit.  might want to check out corona del mar and laguna, too.

  • oh, and next time someone pushes your daughter out of the way while she's rinsing off, tell him/her to eff off. Big Smile

  • Honestly- we all have thick skin around here. You would have been OK without an apology I think but welcome anyway. :)

(to the boards and to the area! )

  • Salt Creek is nice, but with kids it's a PITA hauling all their stuff up that hill.  Laguna is nice too.  The new Aliso Viejo Pool is great too.  I think it's 5 for adults and 3 for kids and under 2yo is free.  We are in Aliso and if we are doing the beach with the kids we usually do San Clemente if we are with family ( to hit up the pier restaurant after) or Laguna Beach if its just us ( this is our fav.)
