Good perennial nurseries near Madison?

I'd like to do some gardening this weekend, and being new to Madison I'm not sure where to go. Not looking for a home depot or anything like that. Rather, I'm looking for a nice nursery that I can get ideas, and have a good selection of perennials. Any ideas for places around here or surrounding cities? Probably not more than a 45 minute drive from Madison...

Thanks!

Re: Good perennial nurseries near Madison?

  • I've been very happy with Jungs and Fellys on the southwest side (both on Nesbitt Road, within about a mile of each other).  They both have a relatively large collection of perrenials to look at.  Fellys is probably a little bit bigger, but I found them to be WAY more expensive on a few of the things I was looking for this year.  On other things, they are about the same.
  • I agree w/ pp...Felly's has a great selection, but their prices are higher.  You could get some good ideas though from walking around.  I actually think HD has a nice selection of plants, for not being a "greenhouse".  Johansen's off the beltline has good flowers, also try Irish greenhouses on Fish Hatch (going towards Oregon).  I have yet to get to the Flower Factory, but I've heard it's great. I was impressed with K&A Greenhouse when I went last year.  I went towards the middle of the season and they had a ton of plants on sale.  http://www.kandagreenhouse.com/

Good luck and have fun!  I didn't do as many flowers this year since I'll be busy with the baby and I already miss it!

  • I use Irish Lane Greenhouses on Fish Hatchery Road and America's Best off of Cottage Grove Road.

I think the quality of Irish Lane is better, but America's Best is huge and has a huge selection.
