OK, it's finally public and I can FINALLY share! I'm moving to Northwest Indiana! With his MBA, DH was offered a great job with United Airlines in their corporate office doing revenue management. Since I don't want to quit my job (love it!) and can work from just about anywhere in Indiana, we're going to live in Northwest Indiana and he will commute to downtown Chicago on the South Shore.
We'll be renting in Miller Beach for the first few months while looking for a home there. Miller Beach is a small neighborhood on the Lake, between Gary and Ogden Dunes. OK, OK... "officially" Miller Beach IS in Gary... but it's buffered on three sides by the Dunes National Park, so it's very different from the actual City of Gary. The community is a close knit beach community with old hippies, gay couples, families, and quite a few families/posh couples that live in Chicago but have beach houses there. Very diverse and fun.
So, if any of my nesties live in NW IN, let me know! I'll be looking for all the best services and locations up in that area.... doctor, dentist, stylist, restaurants, dry cleaning, etc.
Another fun perk- with his job at United, we fly anywhere we want in the world for free! For those of you that know our love of travel, this is awesome news. Granted, we'll have to do the whole standby thing, so it won't always be perfect travel, but if it means free trips to Asia, Australia and Europe... I'm willing to wait.
Re: I'm moving to Northwest Indiana!
That's really exciting! DH and I lived in Valparaiso while he was in law school and really enjoyed NW IN. Miller Beach is super cute, I think you will love it!! A must check out is the Miller Beach Cafe'. Their chief is great and has some very creative food! To us it was a semi-special date night place. Not an every Friday kind of place.
There are also a few nice restaurants in Valpo that I could recomend if you ever want to head down that way. Also, a really fun day trip or overnight place is New Buffalo, MI. It is just over the boarder and has some great bed and breakfasts, inns, restaurants, etc.
Also worth the trip is Tosi's in St. Joe, MI. I know it sounds far, but it is seriously a 45 min drive from Miller Beach. It is an amazing italian restaurant that has been family owned and opperated for 50 years! My family drives up from near South Bend it is so worth the trip!
I could go on and on--I hope you have fun exploring NW IN enjoy your neighborhood--it is also awesome about free flights!!! Please let me know if you have any questions about other services--again most of what I'm framilar with is in Valparaiso, Chesterton but I'm always happy to try to help.
THAT TOO!!!
Glad you've already found Miller Beach Cafe!! yummm! I believe that it is still open--there is this awesome restaurant in Valparaiso call Bistro 157. I remember something about them having the same ownership, or chefs that trained together as MBC. 157 has awesome martini's, and I'm told the best sushi in Valparaiso--though as a non-sushi lover I am taking my friends word for it. Good luck with your move, I'll be happy to suggest more restaurants as needed!!
Yay! Someone will be closer to me! I'm actually heading to Valpo today for a doctor's appointment (believe it or not, the closest RE to South Bend is all the way in Valpo!) We will have to have a GTG or something to celebrate!
PS- my dad works for United in SF, I miss flying for free It's such a great perk!
