  • it looks like this place offers xiao long bao.  i can't vouch for it, though.

  • or this. although the name of the place kind of turns me off.
  • My sad white girl self wouldn't know what to order. Damn it! Where is my token asian friend when I need her?
  • no joke! I think I work fairly close to the BFE area that you live in.

  • seriously, you guys should just drive up to the SGV and meet up with some LA nesties.  just sayin'.  everything i'm reading online says the ones in OC cannot compare to the SGV places.
  • oh, and if anyone is headed out to NYC anytime soon, go to shanghai joe's.  there's one in chinatown and another in flushing.  don't let the name scare you--it's pretty authentic shanghainese food with amazing soup dumplings.  and crack green beans.
  • I'd totally be down... you guys have done it more than once!
  • Ooooh it would be so much fun to have a GTG in SGV.

    Joe's Shanghai.

FWIW, I think our own DTF and J&J are both better.

    xoxo,
    A$$hole Monkey

    Yes, yes it would. :)

  • ah no wonder.  joe's shanghai sounds better than my inverted version.

i tried joe's a full year before i tried DTF or MLV or J&J, so i couldn't do a real comparison.  both times i had them, i was running around the city all day in the rain, so they were especially delicious.

    i still <3 the somewhat a$$hole monkey. ;)

  • I think it comes down to whether one prefers thick or thin skin.  I like thin and delicate.

It's often a trying task to be my friend, I know.

I think we should do a J&J v. Mei Long Village GTG.

I'll follow you wherever you go oh mighty culinary goddess!

  • we totally should.  i still have not done the side-by-side comparison.

If I'm willing to drive to South County or LA for GTGs, then you know I'd be down for SGV. Almost my backyard! :-)

now, some translations.  only because i like you south county folk.  and feel sorry for you.

    J&J = J&J (a dumpling restaurant)
DTF = din tai fung (another dumpling restaurant)
MLV = mei long village (yet another dumpling restaurant)
SGV = san gabriel valley (where all these dumpling restaurants are located)
