Winery Recommendations

In October I will be traveling to the Monticello, Laray Caverns & Natural Bridge. I need some winery recommendations that are close to each of these places.

Re: Winery Recommendations

  • I looooove Rockbridge wine - I would totally check out their winery! I haven't been but the next time I'm out in Lexington I am so going.  In Luray area; I highly recommend Fox Meadows - yum yum!  They're fairly new but their wine I thought was very good.  In Monticello, I think Prince Michele is around there - haven't been to the winery but I had a glass of their cabernet souvignon; very very nice.   Those places all are pretty spread out along the mountain range!!  I'd say that's about 4 hours of driving from Lexington to Luray!

    Have fun!!

Thank you so much for your recommendations. I'm going to definitley check out the Fox Meadows. The Rockbridge winery sounds so good it's just the 4 hrs driving that I don't think we will be able to include in our trip. I'm still going to check it out just in case.

  • Around Monticello there are a bunch of wineries... right near by is Jefferson, which is not to bad, and Kluge, which some will tell you is the best. But I personally (along wiht DH and two friends) were not impressed at all by the wines. By favorite in the area and is about a 15 minute drive from Monticello is First Colony.  Princ Michael is a nice one, but is about 30 minutes or more from Monticello, so only is you were coming down 29 from northern VA would I go there (it is literaly right off 29)

  • Rockbridge will be right between Natural Bridge and Luray caverns right off of interstate 81, and it's definitely worth the trip. It is by far the best winery in the area!

  • Prince Michel is nice.  It is in Madison on 29.  Jefferson is right near Monticello, and it is decent.  By far the best one in the Charlottesville area is Keswick.  Each wine we tasted was outstanding.  If you like reds and happen to go there, you will really be pleased with the Consensus wine.  It is phenomenal.  Bleinham (sp?) is the vineyard owned by Dave Matthews and it was less than desireable (also in the Charlottesville area).
