Hi Ladies, I've been lurking on the nest for a while and thought I'd introduce myself.
I've been married since February 28 of this year, got married in Norfolk and currently live in Portsmouth. I'm a teacher in the area and I'm enjoying my last few days before I go back to work. I'm originally from Pittsburgh but I've lived in this area for just over a year and love it.
So, whats everyone else doing in this hot hot weather?
Re: Another newbie
I've been doing a lot of the same. H built a deck on the back of our house and I've been doing some gardening and landscaping and other projects.
Hopefully the board will start to get some more regulars!
I'm new too, so welcome from a fellow newbie! :-)
I've been cleaning in the air conditioning... I don't do... heat. :-)
I am a teacher too... so this past week was spent getting my 1st grade classroom ready until I found out Wednesday I am going back to 5th grade, and spent Friday setting up that room .
Other than that, some house stuff, some work stuff, some beach time, etc.
Hi and welcome from Richmond! I am fairly new myself so we can become regulars together. Our neighbors are from Pittsburgh and we helped them cheer on the Penguins this years since our team (the Sabers) were out of the Stanley Cup playoffs. so congrats if you're a hockey fan!
We come up your way to sail every once in awhile. Love it up that way - lucky you. I just signed up to be a substitute teacher at the recommendation of a friend who is teacher. I am thinking about going back to school and she suggested this as a way of seeing if I really like being in the classroom or not. I'm excited!
Good luck with your school year!
JD&CJ - Good luck with substitute teaching. I did that in Richmond for one year; freaked me the eff out. I would NOT consider inner-city schools a good teaching experience. Maymont school was nice though - but not exactly what I consider inner city as far as Richmond is concerned either.
And HELLO! to OP Portsmouth does have certain charms to be sure, I do love Bier Garten best! ;o)
I've never heard of Bier Garten, where and what is it?
I agree about the subbing...I did it for a bit in Pittsburgh after I graduated and I could not do it for a long while. Funny, I have no problem teaching in the inner city like I do now but subbing just killed me. I do better with my own kids that I can train personally and be a drill sargent and what not.
Oh btw, can one of you ladies give me the code to putting a pic in my siggy? I've seen it a bunch of times but can't remember what it is.
You can do the code by pasting the url in your signature line under your profile set-up? It does have to be online to do this (photobucket, etc.)
Bier Garten is a German restaurant in Old Towne Portsmouth; if you love authentic German food and beer you'll love this place. Anytime you feel like venturing there - let me know! )
I will confess - my sister (and BFF) moved to Florida with her husband and my husband was recently deployed and I am definitely in need of making some new friends. Haha!
Ooh that place does sound interesting, I love me some good quality beer.
That's gotta be tough with your husband deploying. I know a lot of military wives and girlfriends (shocking around here, I know ) and I don't think I could ever do the deployment thing. When my H first moved to this area I still lived in Maryland for 9 months and only seeing each other on the weekends or every other week was annoying enough. Hope it all goes well for you!
