Bend area Restaurants, etc?

Hey ladies,

DH and I are heading to meet the family in Sunriver for a long weekend today. Any restaurant rec's? I know we are planning one dinner out with about 6 people and a breakfast or brunch on Sunday. I know a few years ago we had brunch at the lodge in Sunriver and it was good from what I remember. Anything we must not miss? We are also brining our dog, any dog parks close?

TIA ladies!

Re: Bend area Restaurants, etc?

  • For a casual breakfast I highly reccomend the Black Bear Diner in Bend.  It's in the parking lot of the Red Lion Hotel, right off the main road through Bend.  Their breakfast is YUMMY.  They also have a good "chicken ceasar sandwich" that I order everytime i'm in Bend, I love it.

For dinner, check out the Old Mill District.  Anthony's is there and it's great for a nice dinner.  There's several other cute, chic, delicious restaurants right there on the river.  Plus it's a nice area to walk around and window shop, all the stores are right on the river and there's great walking trails.

I don't know about dog parks as we have 2 large badly trained dogs, so they don't travel with us.

Oh, also, Madeline's Restaurant in Redmond has GREAT Mexican food and delicious margaritas.  I also eat there every time I drive through Redmond.

  • The Pine Tree Tavern www.pinetavern.com (its not a bar) is awsome! They have huckleberry lemonade/lemondrops ;-) and these little yummies that they call scones but are nothing like a scone. They are indescribably good! They have a really pretty patio overlooking the river. My sister and I LOVE to go there and she recently brought my other sister who can't stop raving about it too.
  • In Sunriver, the Bend Bistro (make reservations) is probably the very best.

If BB is closed or we can't get in, we go to the Italian restaurant near the gas station across from the main grocery store. It's not spectacular but it isn't totally disgusting like the Mexican place or Chinese place in the mall. There's a restaurant right next door to the Italian restaurant that's pretty good too but it's only open for lunch.

Breakfast - go to the bakery in the mall. They have these cream cheese dumpling things that are to die for. Service can be a little surly.

The Lodge / Owl's Nest is all right. I've not had good experiences there for dinner but lunch or for drinks, it's not bad as long as you're not looking to be super healthy.

We met some friends Tuesday at the Pine Tree Tavern for drinks and they weren't bad. Skip the margaritas, you'll find better elsewhere, but my friend enjoyed her bloody mary and the kids liked their lemonade.

A lot of restaurants have closed in the Bend area due to the economy so it's good to call before you go (Pine Tree is still open).

Also, in Bend, for drinks, check out the Bendistillery. If you like coffee, their espresso hazelnut vodka is heaven. It makes a nice gift for people that don't live in Oregon.

There are some good reviews on TripAdvisor for restaurants in the area too.
