OB-Gyn?

My husband and I just moved to St. Louis and we're talking about starting a family soon.  But before we do, I want to find an OB-Gyn.  Any suggestions?  I would prefer a woman or an all woman practice.  Thanks so much!

Re: OB-Gyn?

  • Welcome to Saint louis!   What part of the metro area will you be living in, that might alter where you are willing to drive for your doc.

Personally, I used to go to Dr. Matuszek for years, and liked her...UNTIL we were trying to start a family.  I can chat via PM if you wanted to know specifics.

Right now, I'm seeing a male doctor in saint charles. He's fabalous. Great bedside manor, and makes you feel comfortable.  But, I know you said you wanted a woman, so I know that doesn't help much...sorry :(

     Good luck!

  • Thanks for the welcome and suggestion... What's "chat via PM?"  I would like to know more about Dr. Matuszek....

I'm currently living in the Loop/Wash U area - I don't really know the city that well, but would like to see someone relatively close (ie I don't want to be driving for hours!).

  • I love these women.  Been going there for 5 years.  It's in Bridgeton on St. Charles Rock Road.  genesisobgyn.com
  • I go to Dr. Hugge in South County, not really close, but right off 270.  They had a very large practice that was overflowing with pregnant women.. I've only been once but it was a very positive experience.  My last gyno (who birthed me and all my siblings and called me her grandpatient) retired last year and it was so stressful having to find a new one.  Best of luck and welcome to the Lou!
  • I also go to the same practice as the previous poster (Dr. Hugge's practice).  I see Dr. Stein, but I'm not sure if she is accepting new patients. The whole staff there is great!  My mom sees Dr. Super and he delivered my second baby.  I've seen 5 doctors and have liked all of them, some more-so than others.  Also I've been going to that place for 12 years now.
  • I see Dr. Glass (he's in the same practice as the previous 2 posters!) and love everyone in the practice! Dr. Hugge delivered my son and Dr. Stein delivered my daughter and I absolutely loved both of them. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks with my daughter and saw all of docs (minus Dr. Hugge, she was on maternity leave) and they were all wonderful.

  • I don't know about lilmufish's experience with Dr. Matuszek, but I have been going to her for years. I absolutely love her and her nurse practitioner, Julie. They were great during my prenatal care and my delivery.

Ditto... the best practice I have ever been to by far.

  • Is this the same Matuszek that is in a practice with Dr Gearhart?  Cause I was thoroughly unimpressed throughout my entire pregnancy.  Nobody from this practice even showed up to my delivery.  They had to send a doctor from an office down the hall.  Best thing that could have happened though.  My OBGYN is a guy, but he is freakin' awesome.  His name is Fred Durer.  I looked forward to my yearly visit, as odd as that sounds.
  • My obgyn is Dr. Philpott of Women's Care Consultants.  He was absolutely amazing my entire pregnancy and I will continue to see him for my yearly checkup and future pregnancies.  There are three doctors; Dr. Philpott, Dr. Applebaum and Dr. Stein (she's the only female).  All three doctors are great, I've meet all of them but Dr. Philpott was my primary. The office staff are always very nice and helpful.  They have an ultrasound tech right there in the office.

And a really good part too is that the office is located in the lobby of Missouri Baptist hospital, so you are right there.  The L&D floor is on the 3rd floor.

I would have lost my son or had him VERY early if Dr. Philpott didn't watch my pregnancy so close, he was very supportive and always made me feel comfortable.  I was in and out of the hospital a bunch and went to triage a billion times and was never made to feel like I was over-reacting.

    I recommend them 110%.

Also, Missouri Baptist was a great hospital to deliver at....great nurses, lactation consultants, doctors, and really good food!

  • This may be way too late but I live in the CWE and use Dr. Jacquelyn Turner.  Her office is just south of Forest Park.  Her partner is Dr. Mary Rose Gray Swain who actually ended up delivering my daughter because Dr. Turner was out of the country.  I like them both.  And the NP is also a woman.  Everyone in the office is women actually.

Dr. Turner is very laid-back so if that's your style, then I recommend her.

  • Thanks Meeshe!  I will definitely check them out.  What's their practice called and what hospital(s) will they deliver at?
    Love my family!
