Okay, this is sacrilegious for me to even ask this question, but I am throwing my husband a surprise 30th birthday in September. For our wedding we used Crumbs of Paris and I may just use them but I wanted to see what else is out there. I know of all the trendy and popular bakeries, but who do you use for parties? It's killing me that I am not baking his cake or cupcakes for that matter but it would give the surprise away.
TIA!

Re: Bakery Rec
I used Sweet Cheeks Bakery for my wedding, and I know they do other cakes as well. ?Check out their blog--the link is on the bottom of their website, and they have pics of fun "theme" cakes they have done for birthdays and grooms cakes.?
If you're willing to make the drive, Sprinkles Cupcakes in Newport are to. die. for.
We used them for our wedding in June and I still have people sending me e-mails/commenting about them when they see me in person.
I loved them so much, I drove back to Newport for my birthday in August just to get them again.
thanks ladies. a comment on sprinkles, you do know that their everywhere right? i guess i am just a cupcake snob since i have my own business. thank you for the suggestions!

Amazing!
All I know is that every cupcake baker I was sent to locally while I was planning my wedding weren't as good - they were dry, or mealy, or used too much frosting, or didn't have good "normal" flavors...the only reason I even drove up to Sprinkles (yes, I know they're a chain) is because I was so frustrated trying to find a good baker in San Diego!
As far as cakes go, I've heard good things about The French Gourmet and Flour Power, but I've never tried them personally.
I have been using a WAHM for my cupcakes/cakes. We've used her for E's baptism in April and when I threw my friend's wedding shower in February.
She's wonderful to work with, willing to deviate from her menu and has a fabulous talent for making everything she touches delicious!
Here's a link to her website. If you click on cakes the picture of the cake with the cupcakes below are the ones she did for my friend's shower. And the first picture in the cupcakes link (with the flowers) are the same ones
I just googled them and got this offer.
VG Donuts & Bakery in Cardiff, hands down. Hans and Harry's in Bonita is worth the effort too. These two are way better than some of the larger known bakeries in San Diego. I wish I lived closer to either of them.

i really like the cakes from renaissance, they are part of ranch catering. i have never used ranch catering but have ordered cakes from renaissance bakery and they are delish. i love their raspberry white chocolate cake! they are in the clairemont area.
i also like maya chiang in chula vista. i ordered a cake there for my niece's bday party and we all loved it.
i clicked on your blog link, you make beautiful cakes! where is your business located?
Thanks for all the Rec's ladies.
I work out of my house right now, I am looking at branching out into a location sometime next year.
