Food and Wine Festival this weekend...anyone gone?
I just won tickets and am thinking about going...has anyone been? Any thoughts/what to expect? Food/parking...etc?
Thanks ladies!
Re: Food and Wine Festival this weekend...anyone gone?
Lucky you on the ticket win! We are going - as long as the weather isn't going to be really nasty. All of the tastings are under tents so if there is just a chance of spotty showers, we'll definately be going!
We went last year - it was a good time. We hit probably 15 of the 23 - 25 tents and took home several bottles. We went after lunch and left before dinner so we didn't do any food - there were food vendors there though. We did buy some water because we needed something between the wines sometimes.
We parked on some IUPUI property (I think it was $5 to park) and then had to walk maybe a full block to the entrance...maybe a block and a half. For the most part, you could pretty much walk straight up to a tasting table and get what you wanted. There was one guy that was so...prententious? I think that is the word I was looking for - he'd swirl his wine (like more than is normal...), he'd tip the glass almost completely sideways and look at it, take a sniff, swirl again, take a sip. And of course we were just there to find some new wines (which we did!) and wanted him to get out of our way! The people working were INCREDIBLY friendly and nice and helpful. If you didn't know much about wine or what you liked they offered all sorts of tips, advice and insight. We were complementing one wine (I think it was from Huber Winery) and the guy was like - I stomped the grapes for this one myself! It was funny.
Anyways, I have been trying to find someone to go with B and I but most everyone says - EW, wine! I just laugh and go on. They just don't know what they are missing.
If you don't have anything else going on (and you got FREE tickets!) and it isn't too far of a drive, check it out - even if you're only there for an hour or two. If you like wine (or are interested in learning about wine and want to hit several wineries in one trip instead of going to individual ones) this is a great place to spend the day/afternoon.
Have fun if you go!
I actually REQUESTED tomorrow off JUST for the wine festival. How's that for dedication to my wine addiction!?
