Going from Hartford to NYC?
Hi ladies,
I am a Houston nestie. I will be going with DH to Hartford on a business trip in August, and we have never really been anywhere up north. We were interested in seeing if there are any good transportation options, like trains or bus lines, to easily get from Hartford to NYC, since I know it's only a few hours away. We were interesting in getting to go for a day since a real vacation there is looking way too expensive.
Thanks!!!
Re: Going from Hartford to NYC?
Yeah, your best bet is to get on the Metro North New Haven line to Manhattan, like ilovescott said. You can look up schedules at www.mta.info.
Have a nice visit!
If you won't have a car, there are some mass transit options. There's a bus/train station in downtown Hartford that has buses to NYC all the time. It's called Union Station. Peter Pan Bus lines is one option (www.peterpanbus.com) from Hartford to mid-town Manhattan (Port Authority). They leave every hour, and it's $50 round trip. It takes 3 hours each way. I haven't taken it in years, so I can't comment on if it's gross or not.
If you prefer to take the train from Hartford, you can take Amtrak. Check www.amtrak.com.
Like the other posters said, if you can get down to New Haven, then taking the Metro North commuter train to NYC is probably easiest. There are a lot more trains than Amtrak, and it's a little cheaper. (www.mta.info)
Have fun in Hartford! Before you go check out the Hartford Advocate (www.hartfordadvocate.com) to find out if there are any big events going on. There's always something fun happening. That's the weekly arts and entertainment paper. It's certainly not as good as NY, but it does have its charm.
