Sad news, happy news, just general ranting

I'm a bad STL nestie; I'm never here to post.  So sad news first....I was pregnant, but I miscarried 3 weeks ago at 8 weeks.  It sucked, but my body seems to be back to normal (whatever normal may be).  So the last 2 weeks of May were crap, but June seemed to be a great month - we have lots of good stuff happening, and I was just excited for my new start.  Then a friend of ours died in a plane crash on Sunday, and I got pulled over on Tuesday for not having a front license plate.  Seriously?!?  And he gave me a $55 ticket for it.  Who the hell does that?  So I had to go to a wake today, and since the friend who died was also a firefighter they had a huge memorial up with fire trucks and flags and his gear and everything.  It was just too much for my hormones and emotions.  If you've never been to a funeral/memorial for anyone in EMS, it is an amazing thing to see....as a group, firefighters and medics really are one big family.

But on the happier side of life I got a great haircut this week, and I have a Melting Pot date with my girlfriends next week.  And can someone explain how we have seemed to go from monsoon season to St Louis soup?  Where were the nice 75* temps without rain?

Re: Sad news, happy news, just general ranting

  • Oh Erica, I'm sorry to hear about your m/c.  I was just thinking the other day that we hadn't heard from you in awhile.  And what a crappy way to start June!  I didn't think you HAD to have a front license plate.  Who looks at that anyway???

Yeah for the haircut and the date night with girlfriends!

    How's the house selling going?

I hear you on the weather!  I don't want STL SOUP I want a real STL spring!!

  • Thanks Becca....I spent about a week on the Pregnancy Loss board, then realized that I was wallowing and needed to get off the nest for awhile.

I also didn't think that not having a front license plate was illegal, but apparently it is.  I don't really mind the ticket, I just don't get the cop making a U-turn and pulling me over based on it.  I've talked to a few of my medic friends in Eureka and they seem to think he was trying to make quota early.  Whatever.  I'm just the nicest person ever to the police officers when they come into the ER; I know they have a crappy job sometimes.  But its things like pulling someone over for no front plate AND issuing a ticket that make people upset with them.

Moving on....the house selling.  Good thing we don't HAVE to move because then I'd be stressed.  The only stress here is what I'm putting on myself b/c I'm very type A and don't like having things up in the air.  We've had about 7 showings in the last 6 weeks, which is supposedly good.  I hate that everyone seems to have great things to say about our home but no offers.  Since my last rant about it, we tightened things up with our realtor and aren't accepting the crap anymore from potential buyers.

Your kids are so big and adorable!!

  • Erica,

I"m so sorry to hear about your m/c.  I can't even imagine how hard that must be.  And on top of it, you were friends w/the firefighter that just passed away?  how incredibly sad.  I'm the one who lost 5 friends almost 2 years ago w/the Quantum Leap crash, so i know a thing or 2 about losing people so tragically.  I'll keep you in your thoughts.

I think you said you had worked on the only survivor from our crash.  The terrible news is that he committed suicide a week or so ago.  it's just incredibly sad all the way around.  i feel so bad for his family, but am glad he's finally free to fly again.

i'm not sure there's any words for what you're going through, other than i kind of know how you feel.  if theres anything i can do, please let me know.

    take care,

    amy

  • oh, and on the ticket... don't even get me started.  i got the most outrageous tickets the last couple years.  i got pulled over right after i got my windows ticket by a state trooper.  he also made a uturn to come get me.  they're legal and he was acting all cocky like he "got me".  in your face copper! LOL. i swear, they'll cause an accident just to get someone pulled over for something so minor.  i have many cop friends, so i know how they work.  they're crazy (not all, but a lot) LOL.
