PCP/TTC/ATP

Happy hump day!

Updates? Who's got em??

Anyone want to throw out a question of the day?

Re: PCP/TTC/ATP

  • Well yesterday I posted (on LGBT) about our first OB appointment.  That's really all that is new here.  We're debating whether or not I should get the N1H1 vaccine when it comes out.  We have a lot more reading on the topic to-do before decision time comes.

And just to AW my sweet wife....the whole baby thing, much like the wedding thing, is foreign territory for her...so I find anything she brings up on her own really cute/sweet.....anyway.....she was sorting through coupons/ads and came across a baby items sale at Costco.  She asked if we should start stocking up on any of these items and what big things we need to buy now.  I know that doesn't seem like much but it was so unexpected coming from her.

  • My update is that I wish I had an update.  AF due today - no sign of it (also should have had spotting yesterday for AF - that didn't happen).  Temp continued to go up.  I feel very tired and almost sick-ish today, had another negative test this morning - thus, I am cranky.  I feel like everything points to pregnant, just waiting for confirmation.  Made myself some decaf tea for warmth (cold in my office) and my belly. Would like to go home and lay in bed.  Going to wait until tomorrow morning for another test (want to do one tonight, but only one test left and don't want to buy more unless I have to) - FF chart gallery shows women with my implantation dip pattern sometimes not getting a positive until days after.  I'm really hoping for mine tomorrow.  This limbo feeling is icky.

Even though you have a  short LP it makes total sense that you wouldn't get your BFP until around 14 dpo (give or take one or two).  Implantation should occur in a normal manner regardless of LP length - sometime between days 6-10.  Then it takes a few days for enough HCG to build up to be read on the tests. So although your AF is due sooner than it would be with regular LP length, you still require the same amount of time to build up the hormone.

Don't know the point of my post....just that I'm really hopeful for you! :-)

Thanks, Two.  I wasn't really thinking about that.  That does make me feel better.  14dpiui isn't until Saturday!  I may need another box of tests.......

  • i totally know what you mean about the difficulty of being in limbo but the high temps are a very good sign.  take it easy today and best of luck!
  • i don't really have much of an update. he's been moving around a lot, which is good. we have our last monthly appointment with the ob tomorrow afternoon, and then we move to bi-weekly visits.

c's back has been really bothering her, although it seems to be a muscle issue in her shoulder rather than alignment. she's been going to the chiro for some lower back pain and it seems to have helped. the shoulder got so bad that she actually called off work last night. i've made an appointment for her for a full body massage for next monday, which was the earliest available, so hopefully the masseuse can work out her shoulder and she can relax.

she still has an innie belly button at 28 1/2 weeks. how crazy is that? her aunt made a comment this weekend about how her mom didn't show much with her, either. interesting how differently women's bodies are.

oh! i forgot, though, we do have the tour of the maternity center at the hospital on saturday. i'm really looking forward to that!

  • Nooo... I'm not expecting or trying yet. I just wanted to let you guys know how much I admire you guys. And I'm maybe a little bit jealous. I'm so happy for all of you expecting and keep my fingers crossed for all trying. I got a little teary reading your posts (which happens alot now for me with anything baby related. Especially when I watch TLC's A Baby Story. Guess my clocks alarm is going off.). I can't wait until K and I are ready. You guys are gonna make great mommies. Your little ones are lucky!
  • We also had our first official OB appointment yesterday. It was so-so. We arrived 15 minutes early for our appointment, and still had to wait almost an hour. Then there was lots of waiting in between parts of the appointment.

I was a little surprised that they made me get totally undressed for the intake exam. And a little annoyed that all they gave me to cover myself was a tiny little sheet smaller than a towel (couldn't they spring for some actual gowns?). But I definitely know by now that being pregnant means you have to toss all your modesty out the window, so I wasn't too bothered by it.

The actual conversation in the OB's office went okay. I liked some of the things he said (cervix length checks by u/s from 16 to 24 weeks because of the risk of cervical problems with twins) more than others (automatic "non-negotiable" c-section if babies are anything other than both head-down).

All-in-all, it wasn't bad. Not sure if I am thrilled with him, but I like that he plans to send us to the MFMs for most/all of our ultrasounds-- I think we'll get great care there. We've tentatively decided to stay with him and see how things go.

Our biggest frustration is that we didn't get to have an ultrasound. Granted, we had one last week, but with all the bleeding (red Thurs, Sat, Sun, Mon), it would have been nice to be reassured that everything is okay. The OB said we have to wait for our next scheduled u/s, which is the NT scan in 2 1/2 weeks. That seems like forever to wait with everything that has been going on.

Mrs._F: I agree with Two* about the dpo thing. Also, if I am counting correctly you're 11dpiui today. I tested negative at 11dpiui, too. Just sayin'... Wink

Two*: I'd be interested to hear what you decide about the vaccine. Our OB didn't mention it to us, but did say that he'll recommend a flu shot in the fall, so he may recommend that one as well.

I know from browsing the chart gallery on FF that it could take more time for the positive test to happen, I just had myself psyched up for either AF or positive test, and having neither results in this limbo feeling that I am not digging.  Makes me mad that I let myself get carried away and start testing before today at all.

I would complain about the lack of a gown at your doc!  There's no reason for you to be more cold and exposed than is necessary!

Yup I read it but never comment. I'm such a bad blog follower.  I've very excited for her though and love the way she chronicles her journey.

  • We're just chugging along. We've continued with the charting and doing opks and I ordered a few supplies to track some additional signs. I'm doing really well with limiting my caffine intake to a cup or two a day. In general, I'm just happy with the healthy changes we've made in preparation, ie, eating more organic foods, talking more walks, amazing communication about our future.  Slow and steady.

Originally, we planned to start inseminations in Jan and then we moved it up to Oct. Now? I'm not sure when exactly within that window we'll start. I'm trying to be patient, not my strong suit, and just work though our pcp list without stressing.

Great updates everyone! I'm excited for all the mamas-to-be here. Love your updates!!! And Mrs. F, my fingers are crossed that you are added to that list very, very soon :-)

Enjoy the rest of your hump day, ladies!

    me too, on all counts.

i follow all the ssh nesties (present and former) that i'm aware of on my google reader. heck, i even follow the boards on my reader.

  • We are back to re-looking at sending them to preschool full time rather than hiring another nanny.  Since we are so behind (acceptance letters went out in February!) we have a slim pickings of schools that have 2 openings and schools that will allow kids who aren't potty trained.

One school we really like is near my work, is less than half the cost of our nanny, and has good recommendations. Unfortunately, they don't think they have space for us.

The other school, which sounds amazing, has openings for both of them, they dont' have to be potty trained, is convenient for both L and I to drop off/pick up, and is about the same cost as our nanny ( we were really hoping to decrease costs) - although they need lump sums (which we don't have right now.)   I can't believe we are considering paying more for 2 kids in preschool than we did for my freshman year in college.  Makes me want to throw up.

I haven't done work for 2 days now. Apparantly, finding nannies/preschools is an all day job.

  • I'm so excited for all the baby-making/growing activity on our board1

    Mrs.F - Fingers crossed you're a one-shot deal!

2brides - Sorry for the stress and I hope everything works out really soon.

As for us, we're still shooting for an (early) October start date. Between now and then we need to finish getting the condo ready and get it on the market (hopefully this weekend). I also need to get a pap (next week) and schedule an HSG (last week in Sept). Otherwise we're pretty set and it would just depend on feeling "ready." I've been taking good care of myself, taking herbs and supplements and meditating. We want to take a beach trip in September that we're planning now so that will be a nice distraction before starting!

  • Still chugging along at the hospital.  Ella is doing well and keeps progressing.  She was 4lb almost 12 oz last night so should top that tonight.  She is impoving everyday with her nursing and bottling skills.  She nursed pretty well once today and took half a bottle from S.  She took a full bottle at one feeding and a half bottle at another from the nurses.  Getting better every day.  Still trying to start a spell count (a spell free day that starts a count to five days which clears Miss Ella for a trip home when she also can eat all her feeds by mouth.)

Our primary nurses are getting pretty excited and sad about us leaving.  Traci our day primary hugs us every time we leave and is on vacation until Tuesday.  She told us last night that if we are getting discharged before she gets back (which we totally will not be) to have someone call us and she will come in.  So sweet!  She is an amazing woman who has been at the Brigham NICU for 30 years.  We are so lucky to have her as our primary.  Also Ella's Dr for the last month finished her fellowship and now we are hanging out!  She is really cool we went for drinks (coke for me) and apps yesterday.  While this has been a totally sucky way to enter parenthood we have met some awesome people that we hope will be in our lives for ever.

Sorry about the sap...just feeling lucky we have had such wonderful people guide us through this crazy last 1.5 months....

  • I love hearing everyone's updates!  The baby boom is so exciting!
Brit -- I have my fingers crossed for you!
Sam -- I am so happy to hear that Ella is doing so well.
Thiswillbe -- I hope that you continue to feel better and that the wait until the u/s isn't too bad!

As for us, I can't believe how quickly Maggie is growing up.  I'm not sure the last time I posted but she is crawling and crab walking (hands and feet) at light speed.  She is also pulling herself up and taking some steps when she is held up by something sturdy like her window seat.  She even climbed a step at my parent's house.  It is so crazy how quickly the time goes and how much they change from day to day.

In terms of PCP, our donor is banking right now and since he got started a bit late, will probably be banking until the day he moves (in mid September).  He is a really positive person and not annoyed by the inconvenience.  We asked him to produce enough vials so that we can do about two inseminations for 7 months and then have a couple of IVF vials left (hopefully we won't need to use them).

We originally thought we would start TTC in October so that the babies would potentially be about a year and a half apart.  Now that the time is close, we have decided to delay.  I am so focused on Maggie, I couldn't imagine being pregnant at this time.  So we are thinking more like three years apart, which gives me some time to catch my breath.

  • Annie is getting bigger everyday. People think she is closer to 6 months instead of just turned 3. I think part of that is that she is really alert and has great head control so she likes to be up and looking at everything. She also discovered how to talk really loud this week. Its funny... she is quite the little ham.

I also bought an Ergo today. Loving it already. I even nursed her in it while we were walking around, put the sleep hood up and noone could see a thing. It is my new recommended baby item.

Glad to see everone else is doing well. Good luck Mrs F!

    ~Kennedy
