Poll: How do you get your movies?

I'm so starved for discussion on this board that I'm using fluff news as a jumping off point. :/

Per this article, DVD kiosks are expected to comprise 30% of the DVD rental biz.

Re: Poll: How do you get your movies?

  • We generally just purchase movies that we want to see.
We've cut back quite a bit lately but have a ton of older (2+ years) movies at home.

  • We just cancelled our Blockbuster Online membership this month - we've been using that for over a year but they recently changed the rules on how many movies we could have out so it became more of a pain and it seemed like everytime we wanted to watch a movie, we didnt have one.  We didnt watch enough movies anymore to justify the $13 a month, so now we're using Redbox (or whatever the other one is called that's blue).
  • We usually just got to Blockbuster or Movie Gallery. We have been thinking about trying that box at Wal-Mart, but it seems like more of a hassel than renting from a store. We don't watch many movies though so we don't even rent that often.

  • We use netflix and are really happy.  We get two movies at a time, and we each have our own separate lists (so there is always one of his and one of mine here).  We watch about 2 movies a week, so it works out for us.  The only thing that sucks is the Chicago postal office - they take forever to get here these days.
  • We typically rent from Movie Gallery, but I'm trying to convince H to do a Netflix or Blockbuster mailing service thing.  After numerous late fees (and buying 2 movies because they were a couple of months late), we'd be much better off doing a mail service.

The past couple we've watched, we've done through Comcast On Demand...at least that way we eliminate late fees.

  • I didn't think of it but we also use Suddenlink On Demand. It is very simple and we like it because we can do it spur of the moment.

  • We don't watch a ton of movies, but when we do we usually rent from Blockbuster. Our grocery store just got a Redbox though and I'm considering making the switch. At $1 a day, it's not a bad way to save a few bucks. Even with the late fees that I always incur, it's still cheaper than Blockbuster

Does anyone know if those boxes ever do Blu-Ray movies? If not, we'll continue paying Blockbuster prices for better quality movies.

  • Chrissy I'm pretty sure you can get Blu-Ray from the movie boxes... DH prefers them and I think the last one we rented was - I think the selection just isnt as good.
  • I have a Netflix account and DH has a Blockbuster account.  We seldom like to watch the same things.

But I also have an account with SwapaDVD.com, where you swap DVD's and just pay shipping.  What you receive is yours to keep, or swap again.

  • "Other" should've been my answer...

I either go to the theatre or buy them. I don't watch enough to rent, and if I care enough to rent it, I'll usually end up buying it anyway, so I just cut to the chase.

We also download rentals direct to our PS3 from the Sony Store.

  • I used to buy a lot - especially when Blockbuster would run good promos, but since since OnDemand and DVR, I usually have no shortage of viewing. Lately I've been DVRing HBO movies.

  • We rent through Blockbuster only because we use our Coke Rewards points and get free rentals.

  • We usually order them on demand on Comcast.
  • I used to have a blockbuster account but canceled it to cut costs for the wedding.  Plus I wasn't watching that many movies anymore.  Now I just use redbox when I want to rent.
  • I put them on hold at our library and then pick them up when they are ready.  They always have the latest releases and you get to keep them for 7 days.  It saves us so much money!

  • We use the Red box rentals since they closed all the movie rental stores around us. I actually really like the red box and they're only $1 a day so I don't feel like I wasted a ton of money if the movie sucks. I like to go on their website and reserve the movie ahead of time, it makes it so easy to pick them up if you do that.
  • We used to have Blockbuster Online but we switched to Netflix because it's cheaper and they have lots of streaming movies and TV shows online.
