Any recs for Home Owner's Insurance?

I'm new to the whole home ownership thing and was wondering if anybody can recommend their Home Owner's Insurance company? I'm looking to call a few. Our builder uses Westwood. I have heard of a lot of people in Central FL using Olympus. Any others? or anybody using either of those two?

If you don't mind sharing, what is your monthly rate? and deductible?

Thanks!

?

Re: Any recs for Home Owner's Insurance?

  • We use Tower Hill and it is CHEAP (well, compared to a lot of our friends).  I will get you the information from my husband this weekend if you want it.  I think we only pay like $700 a year or something like that.
  • St. Johns.  b/t 800-900/year

  • Funny you posted this, we're in the process of getting quotes right now! If I'm reading the proposals right, St. John's was $625 and HomeWise was $778. Those two rates were from an AllState rep. And since you and I are both getting the same house ;)...the AllState rep mentioned that we'd likely get some good rates considering we're going with new construction with a "hip roof."

your awesome! LOL Unfortunately I can't call because I'm at work, so I've just been making a running list of all the recommended agencies and hopefully my hubby can call on Monday or I can call sometime on a lunch break. Did you look into the Westwood they mentioned? And wow..so an Allstate rep found the one through St. John for you? Are they sister companies??

I can't take credit - my husband shot off a bunch of emails requesting insurance quotes yesterday. lol I have no idea how AllState operates, but their email reply included quotes from St. John and HomeWise.  I don't think we've heard anything back from Westwood, but I'll let you know if/when we do!

  • I also use Tower Hill and so do my parents. We pay $750 a year for our homeowners insurance with a $500 hurrican deductible.
  • I forgot to include our reps information. We got our insurance through The Ormond Group and our reps name was Kyle Henry 866-464-5600 Ext 306 . He also called us recently and got us auto insurance way cheaper than we had before. They do quotes for several companies :)

Westwood is just a few dollars over $580/yr. They have a $1000 deductible, and a 2% hurricane deductible. Not a bad price!

  • Okay...so I just got a quote from Tower Hill at $520, but that is with a 2% hurricane deductible/ $1,000 normal deductible. I will have to email the lady back and ask if there are other deductible options for hurricanes.
  • We have Liberty Mutual - $1040/year, $500 deductible and 2% hurricane.

DH (a financial analyst) says we chose this company because they have "good financial stability." meaning, that, in the case of a hurricane or other claim, they will actually be able to cover whatever needs to be done.

That's good to know too! We haven't decided who to go with yet.
