Do your dogs beg for food when you eat?

Mine have been begging so much lately.  It's so hard to resist their little ugly faces.  As much as I want to give them some of my human food, I know it's not the best for them.  Every now and then I'll give them human food treats, but not feed it to them, rather I put it in their dog bowls.  THings like carrots, hamburger meat, potato chips.

WDYT?  Do you do this too?  Totally opposed?  Totally ok?  Just wondering.  Sophie has been looking super rotund lately so I'm thinking I might be overdoing it a bit.  =/

  • mollydog likes to hang out underneath the high chair when the bean is dining, but she doesn't beg for food.

i've snuck her little bits of meat now and then, but for the most part she's 100% kibble fed.

  • Jack is a total begger. Since we usually eat on the couch he will sit on the floor in between us, rest his head on the cushion and gaze up at us longingly while whimpering slightly. Sometimes he will get bold enough to climb up on the cushions behind us and rest his head on our shoulder so that he can look at our plates.

He used to get a bite or two of meat or a little bit of rice but now that he has to lose a few pounds he hasn't been getting any scraps at all.

Omg - too cute.  Mine kind of do this, but not like that.  I don't think I could resist that.

  • My dogs beg for food a lot.  My doxie will stand in the kitchen while I am cooking and wait for something to drop on the floor. He really likes onions and just about anything else that might drop.  My Bernese will sit and stare at you with this " I'm starving and sad" face until she gets something. I try not give in all the time but sometimes they get pieces of bacon, a bone, or vegetables. My doxie is a little overweight but I put him on weight management food and have been taking him on longer walks and he has dropped 3lbs.

  • Sona has never ever had people food. She doesn't beg, but she likes to hang nearby if I'm cooking.

However my Mom kept her bichon on 95% human food  (mainly fresh veggies and meat). He became spoiled and won't really eat kibble so now we try to keep him on the same diet my Mom had him on since it was healthy and all natural but it's a lot of work

  • My cats beg. honestly I've had dogs and we always used to give them people food as treats. I know it's bad- but they were always fine.

My little girl cat steals frech fries from M kid you not. She loves McD's french fries..

  • We eat dinner on the couch and Kaya doesn't beg at the couch since we've never given her food while we're sitting there. The kitchen counter on the other hand, she begs.  I make our dinner standing in the same spot that I'll put together a 'treat' for her and in her eyes there's no difference. Like I'll wrap her pills in cheese or chicken at the same counter spot.

Human food is perfectly yummy for dogs, nothing wrong with them other than chocolate and onions and those poisonous foods.  But I try my hardest to make her work for it, all sits, downs, shakes and if all else fails, it's in her bowl......

Jack does this too. He likes to sit in the corner and hope that I'll drop something.

  • My cat does if I'm eating something out of a bowl.  Bowl = milk to him.  Sometimes he tries to grab it with his paws.  Drives me crazy.

  • We had to stop eating on the couch because Dunkin would bark and whine constantly. We saw on the episode of "Its me or the dog" that you should try teaching them to sit in a specific spot during dinner time but its a PITA trying to discipline your dog during dinner so we moved to eating on the dining room table. He leaves us alone there but still hangs out under the table waiting for us to drop something.
  • Not at our house!! When we eat (typically on the couch but anywhere we eat) he has to go to his bed.  It's in the same room as us but he can't beg while we eat.  Now, when we are at my mom's house, he begs because it usually works.  Blue has allergies so we feed him raw food (premade, I don't make it) so we don't give him much human food (but my dad always sneaks him stuff).

  • We're bad dog parents and let our dogs lick our plates after we're finished... figure it saves me scrubbing time on dishes. Because they get to lick the dishes, they wait patiently for the end of dinner so they can do their scrubbing duty.

  • Roxy doesn't beg but she stares at me and moves her head along with every movement my fork makes. It's hilarious. She wont beg with D and I don't know why.

She LOVES popcorn. As soon as it's popping in the microwave she is ALL about it and will stand at my feet until I give her some. I hope popcorn is ok for doggies?

  • mine try and beg if we have guest over, but I'm pretty strict so they never beg from me. We give them people food occasionally. Chloe is a princess and will only eat steak cooked or raw egg mixed in her food, Miguel will eat anything but his favorite is spicy Cheetos it's so funny. My is a little on the chubby side, she is supposed to be 3lbs, and is closer to 5 she is starting to waddle so no more scraps for her.

I think the begging is horrible I hate it when I go to dinner at someone's house and there dog is under the table begging.

Human treat every now and then no big deal.

  • My cat begs sometimes and I usually give in.  She loves lunch meat so whenever DH and I make our sandwiches that we take to lunch she is in the kitchen meowing at our feet.  She also loves yogurt.  She knows the sound of the spoon against the container and knows when I am done I will let her have a few licks.  The can opener sends her running as well-she automatically thinks it tuna.  If it is tuna it's the only time she will actually jump onto the kitchen counter which she knows is a big no.  I used to make her do tricks to get her treats (sit, shake, down, and up) which she did but I have gotten lazy with it.
