Dallas Nestie needs help - possibly relocating!

My husband has a job offer in S.A. that we're considering, which would mean relocating from Dallas.  We know very little about the housing market, and Realtor.com is not great for looking at homes.  Is there a better website to view San Antonio homes for sale?  Also, any suggestions on neighborhoods?  His office would be close to 1604 and 281, but the homes in that area in our price range are huge - we don't need that much space.  We'd prefer an updated older home in a good school district, if that's possible.  Thanks!

Re: Dallas Nestie needs help - possibly relocating!

  • Well welcome to SA! It's a great city to live in and raise a family. There is a lot of building going on a 281 & 1604 so you should have no trouble finding a home. If you would like an older home, check out the zip codes 78232 and 78248. Both are very near 281 & 1604, yet they're inside the loop. More established neighborhood w/ lots of trees :) (oh and by older, I mean 10-30 yrs old... not OLD at all, really.)

A lot of people love Alamo Heights, 78209. The homes are a little bit older and the school district is supposed to be great. The homes could be 40+ yrs old so not all that big.

GL in your search- living inside loop 1604 would be great for your H going to work; he'd be going to opposite direction of traffic!

Oh, and my favorite way to look at houses was using www.mysa.com - click on real estate. I liked it bc I could search by neighborhoods...

  • Well i really don't have a website i can give you but if you're looking for an older home type i have some great news .. i just bought my 1st house in Coverse last October... converse is near IH35 North and 1604(i can make it to the 1604&281 intersection in abt 15mins from my house) but i live in Cimmaron you should check out neighborhoods in Rolling Creek, Cimmaron, cimmaron estates, Miller's Point, Meadow Ridge, Meadow Brook, The Meadows... lots of good communities in Coverse and the school district is great, its the NEISD Judson is the high school, and i know the football has been recognized several times for their football team winning state a few years ago... just google coverse tx, neighborhoods and you should be able 2 find some listings... my home  is 24 yrs old but has a good piece of land w/ it and right behind my backyard is the north converse park... i live on meadow branch drive so take a look, i hope this helps!!!!

    Good luck

PS. I've never lived in Dallas (i've heard its really expensive) i actually grew up in Alvarado i was born in Ft. Worth(still have a lot of family there), and went to school in mansfield and arlington.

  • Hey!  Thousand Oaks is a neighborhood just inside loop 1604 off 281.  There are both newer and older neighborhoods.  The schools are all in Northeast ISD (which is a good system to be in).

  • Welcome to San Antonio!  I am a real estate agent and actually live in Stone Oak which is really close to 1604 & 281.  If you would like for me to send you a list of available homes in that area shoot me an email.  Just let me know general price range, one story/two story, bedrooms/baths etc and I can send you a list.  Many of the online websites are not very up to date the best way to see homes is to look at lists that I can send you from our MLS.  Just let me know if that would be helpful!  I hope you do make it to San Antonio we have a lot of fun around here!  My email is jennifersimko@kw.com  PS.  Are you from Dallas or one of the other areas around there?  I grew up in Ft. Worth and my parents still live there.  :)
