How about shopping?

I just wrote the post asking for salon recommendations, now I am asking for shopping suggestions. I need to get a cocktail dress to wear to a wedding in two weeks. Again I am very close to Tanglewood in Carlsbad. I think there is a Macy's very close to here, but I am hoping you all can let me know other good places to shop nearby.

Thank again.

Re: How about shopping?

  • The Carlsbad mall sucks.  I would skip it entirely.  If you need to go to the mall, go to UTC.  North County Fair ok, but UTC is better.

Other than the malls, check out The Forum in south Carlsbad.  it is on El Camino Real between Leucadia and La Costa.  I LOVE this shopping center.  Also, check out the Carlsbad outlets - on Palomar Airport Road.

  • Unless you want a little black dress, the selection of cocktail and formal dresses in San Diego county SUCKS!!

Head over to North County Fair in Escondido.  Nordstrom has a semi decent selection of basic dresses (think short and black) and you MIGHT stumble across something nice in their designer gown section.  Outside of the mall and across the freeway there is a store called Sophisticated Lady.  They specialize in formal dresses (bridal, prom, evening, etc) and since prom season just ended you might be able to find something nice on sale.

Since you have a really tight timeframe, my favorite dress store probably wont work out for you BUT you can try.  Its called Prevue and it is in La Mesa at Grossmont center.  Most of the stuff that they carry has to be ordered BUT they do have some cash and carry stuff and they always have a huge sale rack.

  • Agreed that the Carlsbad mall sucks.  It's really ghetto.  Don't even bother with it.  North County Fair in Escondido is decent, and Fashion Valley in San Diego is good.  UTC is also OK.  You should head up to Fashion Valley mall in Newport Beach or South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa (both in Orange County) on a weekend for good shopping.
