Child care west side of Indy... any recs??

I'm currently looking into options of going back to work... any centers you recommend?  Also, what about some of the "acedemy's" around here? Like Goddard, Montessori...etc.

Any advice great appreciated!

Re: Child care west side of Indy... any recs??

  • My niece goes to La Petite in Indy and her mom likes it. She's told me some things about it that make me think it's iffy, but having worked in day cares I tend to be really judgmental about certain things.

From a teaching standpoint (I went to school for Early Childhood Education) the Montessori method is one of my favorites. I would love for my (future non-existant child) to go to a Montessori school.

Be very picky. Drop in and observe from the hallway and see how the teacher's act when they don't know they are being watched (a lot of centers have two way mirrors so you can see in but the people in the classroom can't see out). I worked at a couple day cares (not in Indy) when I was in school and I learned very quickly which ones I would never send my kids to.

  • DS went to LaPetite in Avon for about a month.  He started at 11 months and they made me get a doctor's note saying that he needed to stay on formula (I would have switched him to milk a month early, but the pedi said no).  They "decided" that he didn't like the formula and just started giving him milk, without my permission and against the doctor's written note.  I know that it didn't hurt him, and it wouldn't.  But that was not their decision to make.  I was livid when the teacher told me that they gave him milk.
