New to the boards

Hey there, my name is Ashley. DH and I have been living in NM (Los Lunas) for two years now. He is a scientist for the Air Force and works at the most BFE part of Kirtland AFB.

I'm originally from Colorado Springs, CO and that is where I met DH (he went to the Air Force Academy). I'm still trying to adjust, I miss the snow a lot. I worked retail for years and decided to take, what has now turned into, an extended break from it. Currently I am cooking a lot and selling things I make on Etsy.com. I love all things vintage and am currently addicted to carnival glass.

We try to make to most our of everything that comes our way and spend a lot of our time with friends and of course our amazing Cocker Spaniel, Emmett!

Re: New to the boards

  • Welcome to the board!  We're actually starting to get some activity and people coming out of the woodwork.

It sounds like you keep yourself busy.  What is carnival glass?

  • Hello  :)  I'm glad you are joining us!

  • Carnival glass is a pressed glass that you see coming out of the depression era. It was a cheap glass that was actually given away at carnivals, hence the name. It comes in a wide variety of colors of translucent glass, but the main key factor is its iridescence.  They also come in far more shapes and patterns then I can properly keep up with.

    Thanks for the welcome!

That is so cool.  I'm familiar with the green uranium glass and teh red glass from the Depression.  That is such a cool thing to collect!

  • Welcome!  I'm totally adicted to etsy.  What do you make?  I wish I was better at crafty stuff!

I have made jewelry for years and sell it on there. I have also just gotten back into making greeting cards and hair accessories. I am having the most fun with the hair stuff right now.

Etsy is exciting and awful all at the same time. I say awful because I spend far too much time there, usually shopping.

  • Welcome!  I grew up in Belen and still have several friends in the LL/Belen area.
Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • Welcome!!  I grew up at the edge of Abq., right next to the Isleta reservation, so pretty close to Los Lunas.  I currently live in Portales, NM, but try to frequent Abq. at least once a month to visit family.
