Re: Upstate fall activites
Fall for Greenville should be coming up soon, October 9-11. Its in downtown greenville. It is by far one of my favorite things to do. I think it is especially fun if you're new to town.
There are different music acts performing. They sell tickets for food. Different restaurants are set up and you redeem the tickets for food. If you are new to town this is great because you can sample food from many different local restaurants for very little money. Most restaurants give pretty generous amounts of food for you to sample. My husband and I can buy $20 worth of tickets and leave satisfied. I've also been able to introduce my husband to Thai food this way!
I cannot wait for Fall For Greenville!!!! We've been here for 2 years and this is the first year we'll actually be in town (as far as I know-lol)!!!
ama-is there as big a variety of restaurant vendors-i.e. various ethnic varieties, etc??? DH & I love Thai food and sushi. We'll pretty much try any food once.
We've never been either, but I'm pretty sure we will this year!

The apple festival Hendersville NC (which I know isn't upstate SC but we will go anywhere within an hr drive) is this weekend. it's a lot of fun and quaint and really helps get you in the fall mood.
Also, as far as the pumpkin patches and farms we go in October to Denver Down Farms in Anderson: http://www.denverdownsfarm.com/ (they have: pumpkin patch-pick in the field, pumpkin patch- already gathered from the field, train rides, corn maze, straw or hay bale maze, child-sized haybale maze, corn cannon, tractor-pulled hay rides, prepicked produce, gift shop, snacks and refreshment stand, restrooms, picnic area, petting zoo, farm animals)
and in early November we venture back up to NC to Sky top Apple Orchard to pick the yummy apples for our applebutter, apple dumpling and apple bread. They have most apples availble into December too http://www.skytoporchard.com/
(and just for kicks in case you are wondering Ty-Lyn Tree farm in NC has good trees and a nice atmosphere)
and just like everyone mentioned fall for Greenville is a good time every year.
