Food Inc. - must see documentary!

DH & I just saw a good movie/documentary tonight. It's called Food Inc. It's like the Inconvenient Truth for food. Some of the things are not new (like how they treat animals) but you'll see a lot of surprising new things. You'll never look at food the same way again. You think going vegetarian is the way to go but after seeing this, it makes you think twice!

  • This sounds like something I'd really be interested in!  Will add it to our Netflix queue.  Thanks!

  • Ooooh this sounds interesting!
  • I want to see this movie also.  The only thing though that bugs me about the whole thing though is that the move was produced by Chipotle.  They have this whole marketing thing about "Food with Integrity" and try to act like they're above it all.

So, the problem that I have is that Chipolte is as big as they are because of who their parent compnay used to be. And who was that you ask?

    McDonalds.

That sort of smoke screen really irks me.

  • Pretty much everything we eat can be traced back to about 4-5 major companies. Sad but true.

I am sure you will find this movie very interesting. Makes me wanna grow my own farm lol. Let me know when you guys have watched it. I want to hear what you think. I don't wanna be a spoiler so I won't mention anything Indifferent.

  • The cover story of TIME magazine this week is :The Real Cost of Food: I'm thinking that it highlights some of the same info.

Alix, you're so good! that's the perfect way to live. are you still vegan? we watched the movie with a vegan friend. sad to say even the soybeans are not safe! ugh. after watching this movie, DH & I vowed to get our fruits & veggies at the local farmers market. there's a small farmers market close to where we live but there's not much variety as far as veggies they sell. we have to find a bigger market to go to!!

  • have been vegan but not fully vegan right now as i do eat fish about once maybe twice a week-however i do not eat dairy, avoid gluten most of the time and also don't eat soy-too estrogenic for me.  Yes every so often I cheat but rarely and honestly I feel it the best way for me to live to maximize health and be kind to the planet.  Fortunately I live in california where it is easy for me to live this way but I believe that urban planners should definitely think about where to have local sustainable farmers in the area-so important.  We also have loads of macrobiotic and raw restaurants-it is a very accepted way of life out here.  Try getting a juicer and adding raw green juices to your diet-you will be AMAZED
