Vick (Vent)

Just posted this in entertainment, never knew about the sports section on thenest.

I really am shocked that he was signed so quickly. Of course, I understand WHY he was signed but I think it is too early for him to be back in the pros. He hasn't proved himself yet that he has changed at all. I mean yeah he did his time and he shouldn't have to be penalized anymore than the courts ordered but honestly I think it was a really bad PR move. I used to like the Eagles but now I question judgement. Yeah, the team needs someone like Vick but at what cost?

  • The whole thing still makes me sick.  I'm all for giving people a second chance but professional athletes are given such a pass.  They are sending a message that talent outweighs the value of doing right instead of wrong.  I don't plan on watching much NFL games this year.

What exactly would you expect him to do to "prove himself"?

Start a charity, volenteer. I think he should be more concerned with giving back to his community than being second QB.

  • I completely agree. It's like, he tried to redeem himself while he was signing with the Eagles, and now, that's all fallen to the side of the road. If he wants to be a man, he needs to fully own up to what he did and put that talking into action. I don't care how good he is...what he did should not be outweighed by the fact that a team picked him up. He needs to do something.

It's all about the money PERIOD. Prior to going to jail Vick's jersey was the top seller when he was with the Falcons. He got crazy endorsements and made money while he was going to the bathroom. Will his jersey sell like it did? Probably not but its too good of an opportunity for any team to give up. In addition, the Eagles are starting him off at 1.6 million for the first season and if the decide to keep him a second season it''s "only" 5.3 million, in his pre jail bird days that was the amount of money he paid in taxes!

I also read in one of the posts about how he's an athlete and should set an example, I agree but keep in mind those people we put on a pedastool are PEOPLE!!! People that make mistakes, granted if any one of us were to do something like that we would not be hired  back at our original jobs but we also don't bring in millions of dollars in sponsorships. Don't think his games will bring in a higher viewership because people want to see how good he is after jail? more viewers, means a more expensive 30 second commercial for McDonalds or whoever.

Bottom line: The NFL is a business.

AGREE!  Seriously, who decided that pro athletes are supposed to be these big role models?  It's up to parents to help shape who their kids idolize!  If you kid wants a Vick jersey, that's on you as the parent, not Vick.
