PCP/TTC/ATP

How is everyone doing?

 Any suggestions for QOTD?

Re: PCP/TTC/ATP

  • I have a QOTD suggestion...

If you are planning to have more than one (or two Wink) and are using donor sperm, do you want your kids to be full siblings? If so, how many extra vials will you/did you buy*?

*maybe that should be "per additional child desired"...

I don't have an adoption corollary to the question, though, so someone else feel free to jump in on that front if you'd like.

  • QOTD: I think we're going to buy 3 vials of the same donor and have them stored at our REs office (cheaper than the sperm bank).  Then my plan is to call the sperm bank every six months and see if our donor is running low.  If that becomes the case I might buy 3 more to have 6 total on hand. I figure that will give us double the tries we needed this time.

  • We didn't bank up on sperm (ha ha) we just bought what we needed per month (worked better for us since we switched several times.)  I don't know what we'd of done if we had gotten pregnant with a singleton - but since we found out that we were having multiples pretty quickly - and we knew we only wanted 2 - it never came back up.

Update:  I dropped the paperwork and check off at the daycare this morning. They start on Tuesday. Full time. Gulp. I am so nervous. Embarrassed

  • We already bought 12 vials of our donor. Hopefully we won't need to use them too quickly (i.e. BFP within 3-6 tries). If we get down to 6 vials left we will be working with an RE and will discuss purchasing more. Depending on how many it takes TTC #1, we may purchase more to add to storage for TTC #2 (I would want to have at least that many vials in storage as it takes for #1). We currently have about 4 years of storage on the original vials, so we hope to keep a supply in there at all times so we get the entire length of time.

  • QOTD: We just started discussing this.  We purchased 3 vials to start, so we have 2 hanging out at the midwives' right now.  We are going wait until the 2nd trimester and then ship them back to the sperm bank.  The part we are not sure about yet is if we will pay to store them at the bank, or return them for a refund.  Our donor has a LOT of vials available, so I would feel relatively comfortable returning the vials and checking back periodically to make sure that he wasn't getting low on supply.  It would just be nice to get the cash back and save on the cost of storage for a little while - especially with us buying a house and adjusting to our new baby-budget.  But yes, I would like to use the same donor again for baby #2.

Update: I am tired and hungry.  And so happy about it! Smile  We are both really on cloud 9.  I'm still surprised by my major lower belly bloat - I couldn't wear most of my pants without the Be Band - at this rate, I'll be in maternity pants before I know it!  We're counting down to our first midwife appointment and thinking lots of good thoughts for a sticky baby!  I've had some nausea, but it's been pretty mild, and I'm able to keep it at bay (for now) by munching on crackers.  Okay, is it nap time now???

  • QOTD: We would like any bio kids we have to be from the same donor...although at this point I'm not sure how many bio children we'll have, and its entirely possible we'll go straight to IVF for the next...so, thats a lot of unknowns...we've discussed storing 3 vials and I think thats pretty reasonable.  We're lucky b/c the midwives will store indefinitely for free.

Update: We may have a baby by my birthday Big Smile  Full update in blog, but the condensed version is: new SW seems to be really on the ball and want us licensed and placed, stat.

  • our goal is for each of us to carry once, so regardless of what we do our kids won't be full siblings. we do plan to use the same donor, so we'll probably buy 6 vials to store. i'm not sure if we'll do that right away or hold off and watch since he's not limited availability. if it takes more than 6 tries there's a very good possibility that we would switch donors anyway.

other than that, we're just nesting away. the electrician is coming next week to do some stuff in the nursery. once that's finished we can paint in there, and then we'll be able to get the crib out of our dining room and into his! hooray!

LOL well we're not sending anything back if we can store it for free! That's amazing!  I'll have to call them.  I thought they only stored while ttc - very cool!  Also, after I read your post I ran (yes, ran through the internet) to the blog for the full update - I commented there, but just wanted to say again how thrilled I am that you got some good news!!!

  • Our plan is to each carry one. I'd like to store w/ the doc b/c its cheaper (figure we'll buy 3 upfront and 3-6 more after BFP) but we're eventually going to change docs when we move so not sure how that works...

That does go away some before baby belly starts to show up... so you might be okay for longer then you think.

That said, I bought some maternity pants and have been wearing them starting this week... and dude are they comfortable!!

Bloggity Blog - You know you want to...
  • I just wrote a whole post and the computer at the hospital just logged me off and deleted my post.  Not what I needed.  Things here are not great.  Ella is losing weight and we are taking some steps back to get her back on track.  She is also spelling more so we are upping her intake and only feeding her by mouth twice a day when I nurse her.  This is a major step in the wrong direction since she had been doing well and the other day she had taken all her feeds by mouth except one.  Looks like we will be here at least until her due date 9/14 if we get out of here in september I will be happy at this point.  Next week marks 2 months here. To say I am discouraged is an understatment.  I will post more on the blog later.  I am too upset right now to really type it all out again.
