An email from the University of Michigan alumni sports chair

I thought some of you might get a kick out of this... I'm not a rabid Michigan fan (I went there for graduate school) and I think it's pretty hilarious how strongly some people take these things...  And it's no wonder why people hate Michigan fans and think that we/they're arrogant.  lol

Here's an email from the sports chair of the UM alumni group in SoCal...

"Here we go again SoCal.  It's finally game week!

We know you can't wait for Saturday, and neither can your UM Club of SoCal Board.  We know the usual late-summer swagger, confidence, and anticipation of a rosy New Year has been replaced by something more like a Spartan-esque cautious optimism.  All of a sudden 6-6 is supposed to sound good.  ESPN doesn't talk about us.  Without a bowl game last season the team has been off for what feels like forever, and frankly ever since Bo died things have sucked (victory over Florida notwithstanding).  The fact is, we've never had to handle a nightmare like 2008, and most of us don't quite know how to deal.  Most school's fans experience this from time to time, but this is uncharted territory for the leaders and best.  We all want to do our part to put things back on track and take part in the "All In For Michigan" campaign, but being 2300 miles from Ann Arbor can make us feel helpless.  So what are maize and blue bleeding Angelinos to do?

Obviously we come together and step it up

The Club knows that we're all in a strange place mentally so we figured the best thing that we could do was get together in a great place physically.  Our new game watch venue, is a great bar with TV's everywhere, a giant menu, very cool staff, and that "giant-party-in-someone's-living-room feel" that we've been missing the last couple years.  We think you'll love it.

In addition, UM Club volunteers are committed to making the whole game watch experience better.  We want every one to feel more like an event, so this year you'll see raffles, giveaways, special guests, and even more cowbell!  And if the team struggles, whatever.  We can sing The Victors during first downs instead of touchdowns, and wins will be that much sweeter.  Hopefully you'll want to get there early and stay late - especially since they'll be kicking a portion of your bill back to our scholarship fund : )

See, things are looking better already.  You've got a great football bar with lots of like-minded friends in beautiful SM.  Definitely beats the hell out of getting frustrated in your living room.

We need everyone to show up early with a big crew and maize the place out.  Really bring it.  Be a conquering hero. Go ahead and rock your wrist bands and your eye black.  Turn your swag on and don't be afraid to paint your face.  Help us establish a new home at one of the best and newest bars in town.  Remember that Michigan alumni put a flag on the moon, and we shouldn't have a problem staking a claim at our new bar by the time the band takes the field.

Bottom line is, none of us really knows what to expect on the field this year.  But we think you should expect to have a good time every Saturday regardless of the score.  That will take a team effort though.  This is your club and your school.  All in!

Can't wait for Saturday!  Go Blue!"

  • WTF.

If someone from my alma mater sent that, I'd laugh him all the way out of town. This is a little much for my taste.

  • *eye roll* What a nutjob

Michigan isnt even ranked this year.....Maybe they would do better this year if the players were too busy turning the coaches in for making them practice too much.
