Branson MO

Has anyone been to Branson MO recently? We are staying at a condo through RCI. My DH, our 3 year old, and my DH's family (9 total) are going. We will be doing some adventures on our own as well as some as a group.

1) Any advice for buying tickets for Silver Dollar City and Celebration City - are the hopper passes online really the best deal?

2) Any Restaurant Recommendations?

3) Any must do's?

4) Things to avoid?

Thanks!

Re: Branson MO

  • I can't answer all your questions, but I do have a restaurant recommendation for you.  I like Devil's Pool restaurant at Big Cedar Lodge and as far as any "must do's", I don't know if this would be considered one, but they opened an area off of Lake Taneycomo (I think) called the Branson Landing and it's basically an outdoor mall.  They have entertainment in the evenings with a water and fire show.  However, with all the rain that the area got back in the March/April time frame, I had heard that the area where they normally do the entertainment was pretty flooded.  The stores shouldn't have been affected though.  We have fun when we go and there is a Mexican restaurant in there that is really good.  They have the best steak soft tacos and fajitas.
  • We really enjoyed the Branson Bell Showboat dinner/theater cruises.  We also went to Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede dinner show, which was good, but if you are only going to do one I would pick the Branson Bell.  Other than Silver Dollar City we road the Ducks which took you down to the dam and then on the lake.  There is all kinds of shopping too ~ you'll have no problem finding things to do.
  • There is a restaurant at the College of the Ozarks that is really really good.  It's not your typical college fare.  It's a work college and the students work to earn their tuition.  One of the jobs they can have is working in the restaurant.  It gives them experience in culinary skills and hospitality.  It's really top notch food at a decent price.  It's one or two exits down from the strip... the Hollister exit.  Get off there and take a right.  Go straight and when you get to the college, it is the big lodge looking building on the right.
  • There is a new show there at a new theatre the Sight and Sound theatre the show is Noah's Ark...supposed to be awesome great family environment.

Dixie Stampede was so much fun.

Avoid driving down the main drag as it takes forever...we are talking hours. See about taking the outer routes.

Ride the Ducks. That is awesome.

Branson Landing is great for shopping and eating. Right on the lake. Very new.

  • I totally forgot about the restaurant at the College of the Ozarks!  I second that recommendation!
