DSLR Cameras

I'm looking into buying a DSLR camera. I loved my old film SLR, but I don't want to use film anymore. I'm an novice photographer, nothing fancy. I just like the control of SLR's over point-and-shoot cameras.

So, if you know anything about them, what brand and/or camera would you recommend? I'm not looking to spend a ton of money, but I want to get something that will last me a while.

Re: DSLR Cameras

  • We have a Nikon D40X, which they no longer make but there are newer comparable models out. This is a lower end Nikon and we love it.My parents and I have always owned Nikon cameras except for one point and shoot we have. Nikon has some of the best lenses in the industry and thats part of what I love about them. If you have a Costco membership, that is where I have seen some of the best deals on the DSLR's beacuse they usually sell them with an extra lens for about what you pay for the body and one lens elsewhere.

  • I like Nikons for DSLRs (Canons for Point & Shoot).  I have a Nikon D90 and it's amazing...can't come up with any good excuse to upgrade from it...and there isn't anything on the market currently that would make me want to.

The Nikon D40 is a good camera, if you're ok with 3 focus points and 6 mp.  It wasn't good for me, because I needed more focus points and more resolution, to allow for cropping during wildlife photography.

If you can't afford a D90, but want something more advanced than a D40, look into a D80.
