Im trying to book our 1 year anniversary and Im trying to figure out whether we should just stay in San Fran for all four days and drive/take tours into Napa or vice versa.
Anyone on here been there?
Re: Anyone been to Napa?
Ooo! That's what I wanted to do for our Anni! San Fran that is.
It's starts getting rainy in Napa at that time of year (Late Nov - Mar). They actually get floods. I'd probably still attempt to take a drive over there but I'd do a self tour. That way in case weather ruins whatever we had planned I don't feel as bad Lol
We went west on our HM (Vegas & Arizona) and honestly the best part for me was the driving. The rental car was our big expense and the best thing we could have spent money on.

I went to Napa about a year ago. In November too. I loved it!!! Don't remember the rain but we stayed in San Fran and just drove there. We did a wine tour on our own...b/c we like that better. And then drove to other cities. Like HisOnly said...the drive is the best part!!! You def have to get on the pacific coast highway!!! It was AMAZING!!! We got great pics too. If your DH is really into golfing maybe you can go for a day to Pebble Beach...that area is beautiful.
Here's a tip on car rentals...never rent at the airport. Its actually cheaper just to get the bus to take you to your hotel. There are usually car rental places near-by. That's what we did and we saved a lot on a convertible (which is pretty much a MUST when you're traveling down pacific coast highway). Also...we scheduled the car rental when we would be going out of San Fran b/c the public transportation there is pretty good and the city isn't BIG. It's easy to get around.
Hope that helps...and can I say I'm soo jealous!!! The food there was amazing!!!
Thanks girls!!!
I actually am working with a travel agent and she included our transportation to and from the airport...were set there.
I think you Ladies answered my question though---we should be fine staying in San Fran and just driving into Napa on our own. Were going to do one tour day where they pick us up and drive us to different wineries only because we want to drink all we want and enjoy it. On the other days well probably rent a car.
Do you guys think it will be very cold? Ive checked temps on weather channel dot com but realistically what should I pack?
Justine- were going in November! I hope there are no floods. eeeek!

Thanks girly! Us too. Were actually getting a great deal (if not we wouldnt be able to afford).
I promise to come back with rec's for all of you!
Aw Jenny so fun! We went to San Francisco and Sonoma (after 4 days in Lake Tahoe) for our honeymoon and went to some of the Vineyards in Napa one day. We stayed in Sonoma and drove to San Francisco in a car we rented. I would suggest staying in wine country and driving to San Francisco 1 or 2 days to see Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Ghiradelli's, Lombard St. etc. and all the other touristy fun stuff. But the best part of it all to us was going back to our super cozy villa instead of a regular hotel in the big city. Plus, the hotels in wine country usually offer free wine tastings in their tasting rooms if you're staying there!
When we did our research, it was actually cheaper to stay in Sonoma/Napa than a hotel in San Fran because we wanted a fireplace and a hot tub Definitely a great spot for an anniversary. But we definitely plan on going back and just doing a 3 or 4 days in San Fran to really get a feel for it. Good Luck with the planning! (Sorry that was long LOL)
We went to San Fran fro 4 days in March. We spent half a day in Sausalito and took one whole day to go through the wineries. We went on a shuttle tour which was perfect b/c we didn't have to worry about driving. They took us to 4 or 5 wineries in Sonoma and Napa. I loved it! There's not much else to do in Napa besides the wineries. I've had friends stay in resorts there and just spend the whole time going to the spa, restaurants, and wineries/vineyards. But, I'm more of a city girl, so I recommend staying in San Fran!
We went for our one year anni. It was awesome!!
We stayed 3 days in San Fran -- which we felt was more than enough and 7 in Napa. For us Napa was way better. I think it just depends who you ask. My cousin thinks San Fran is the best.
I think you should try to fit in Napa. They even have tours that take you to several vineyards in one day. Something to think about if you only have a day.
Have fun. Happy planning.
