I saw it earlier and just caught up. Totally 100% ridiculous. There are so many people in this world that TRULY need a helping hand financially (homeless, widows/widowers, terminal illness, etc.) and I don't believe she's even close to being one of them. Like some of the AFSB'ers said, the sense of entitlement is astounding.

 KB, I totally agree. While I think it's very kind of her board to support her, the original idea is pretty abusrd and decidedly desperate. I also can't stand the mob mentality should anyone have a dissenting opinion.

I also feel like she's avoiding the question of "why can't you freeze the sperm????!!!!" that has been asked several times now. I look at it this way, if the SAIFers are telling you to take a step back and reassess then for real, you need to reevaluate your game plan. Those chicks are serious and I suppose are entitled to be given what most of them have been through.

what's SAIfers? Sorry, I don't stalk any other boards really.

 I honestly don't know how I feel about this, mainly bc I don't think I've ever felt desperation on that level in my life. Although I think it is absurd, at least it's legal. People go much further for a lot less.

I totally agree with you Shag, people have gone farther for less and it IS legal. I think this is desperation wrapped up in a publicity stunt though. She can't honestly believe she'll get that money by selling her baby's name (middle name actually) so what is the real motivating factor? To get some talk show host to air her story? IMO it's a level of selfish that I can't quite fathom. The GP board is so mob-mentality that there's no hope for real discussion. It's support support support or don't speak. Run with us off the edge of the cliff or go away and don't come back.

The OP couldn't have possibly thought a normal person would bid that much (starting bid that high no less!) to give a stranger's kid a middle name. If it's about the publicity, just own up to it. Send your own damn letters to Ellen and Oprah.

Very true KB. I don't stalk that board ever, so I don't get the whole mob feel. (I've probably read like 4 posts, all of which have been linked to from this board).

There's a zillion ppl on this planet that have much more tragic stories than hers. Although I think it's sad, her's isn't anything special. So what, she can't get pregnant and she's been trying forever. You know how many people have gone through the same thing. And there's no way of telling IVF will even work.

(1) I love how ridiculously diplomatic I attempted to be in the buddah v. phroot thread. Wow.

(2) I totally forgot about Yates's random "I hate my sister because of her tatoos" contribution.

(3) I like that the siggys seem to be updating between TK and TN, because it was interesting to see who's still posting elsewhere and not on J09 (Oh, and, beanie is 6 weeks preggo).
