Hi! I just saw your post on the BR board. My dh and I moved here a year ago from Cincinnati. As far as cost of living, it is pretty comparable to the northern suburbs of Cincinnati. As far as city size and feel....it feels a lot like Evansville to us (closest comparison that we have found). Extremely easy to navigate and the option of interstates to get you around.
We live in Denham Springs (almost in Walker) and really like it. Traffic going in and out of downtown at rush hour is kind of crappy, but dh lives with it! I do not work so I just don't drive when it is rush hour.
If you have other questions, please let me know. Feel free to email me at sntaggart @ hotmail dot com.
good luck!
Re: PUBoilerBride
Thank you for the post! Last I heard on Thurs. is that the company has my resume and it is going through the channels, so hopefully I will hear back soon
I think Denham Springs was recommended to MH by another LA person, so we've been looking in that area.
I'm not very familiar with the Cinci area (besides a couple areas where friends live and where IKEA and Jungle Jim's are ) -- how doe the NE 'burbs compare to other parts of the city -- i.e. is it the most expensive side?
I haven't been to Evansville in awhile, but I did read that BR is smaller than Indy.
Is the Bluebonnet Blvd considered downtown? It looked like it was on the SEside of downtown, but I didn't really know from a map.
I haven't forgotten about you! I have to ask dh about the bluebonnet area. As for the col in cincinnati. We lived where the IKEA is. We basically got the same house where we lived (monroe) for the same price. We paid a little more but our house there was 20 years old and our house here was 6 months old. However, there are definitely more expensive houses up there too. Sorry that probably isn't too much help!!
BR is definitely smaller than Indy. It has a lot to offer as far as shopping and stuff but doesn't feel like a big city (because it's not).
I am personally not a fan of living near the city. Mainly because you can have a neighborhood that is nice right next to a neighborhood that is horrible. I prefer living out a little ways. I know Bluebonnet is busy. The mall is there as well as some other shopping etc. I do know that as you get closer to BR, it does get more expensive. I will check with him though (he has been out of town) and let you know what I find out!
That's good to know. We won't be living anywhere near the city - MH likes his space and wants a minimum of two acres.
A lot of the houses I found with 2+ acres are 30 years old- nothing newer (
Of course now I'm not going to hold my breath on this job -- apparently the recruiter was just blowing sunshine up my @ss --- there are 4 other applications and they have slightly more experience than I do. Bleh. I was so excited to get the hell out of Indiana too!
