Newbie here!

Hi there,

My name's Kristin and I'm from Norfolk.  I usually post on the What's Cooking board, but I've finally had the chance to make it over here.  It seems like there are a bunch of you from Hampton Roads - I look forward to speaking with all of you!

Kristin

  • Hey Kristen, I'm fairly new here too. I'm Erin, I live in Portsmouth and work in Norfolk. Woo hoo for the downtown tunnel! Tongue Tied
  • ewwww. I feel sorry for you guys that have to use the downtown...or any tunnel on a reg. basis. If I have to go to that side of the water...If i can't use the MMBT, I'm usually not going LOL. We did decide to go to Va Beach last night to see my friends family and drove all the way down thru hampton to get in front of all the HRBT traffic. That tunnel is brutal. tourists...ugh.

  • Yeah its pretty crappy. Mornings aren't too bad on my way to work but my drive home (of all of 6 miles!) can take anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour and I never know which its going to be. I'm hoping to eventually get a job on my side of the tunnel so I can leave that hell behind.
  • All tunnels infuriate me.   :)  I try to stay on my side of the water as much as possible - especially during tourist season! ..And don't get me started on the drivers here  lol

This will be my 4th year here in Norfolk, orginally from Hartford, Connecticut.

I really dont' have any friends here (still), so it's really nice to meet you guys.

  • Gotta love a local board  :o)  I think we all come on here in a sense of wanting to meet other people and make new friends.  Or, I confess, that is part of the reason for me.  The other part is advice.  ;o)

In light of that - I've posted information on the G2G thread about the upcoming wine festival if you ladies want to chime in and put in your two cents, suggestions, etc.!!

I hope everyone is having a good weekend; I lucked out and got to spend 4 hours at the beach yesterday; it was just w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l.  If you haven't discovered Sandbridge and Little Island, you need to.  It's great to find a beach that isn't a tourist trap and crowded with said tourists.  Not to mention the yummy little dairy that is nearby, Bergey's Dairy, we stopped on the way home and indulged in a waffle cone with their flavor of the season apple crumble, like apple crumble (esp. with the waffle cone) with vanilla ice cream.  Yum yum!!

  • Hi & Welcome to the board. I'm from Norfolk too. I can't believe how hard it's raining today. The roads are really flooded in the Ghent area of Norfolk and the tunnel was backed up on my way to work this morning. Hopefully the drive home won't be as bad.

  • I hear ya on the rain; it's horrid.  I don't even have to get the phone call to know DD's soccer practice was cancelled for today. Hah!  What a great way to send the kiddies back to school - and today is DD's first day of Kindergarten!

  • A little late but.. :)  The rain was horrible.  My backyard was a pond.  I really like the cooler weather though.
