Makeup: Concealer

I notice on many boards that people say that they don't wear much makeup... but, concealer is always on the list.  We even had a post on the Seattle board about wearing makeup while camping and concealer came up.  I feel completely out of the loop.  The only time I've ever had concealer on my face was when my makeup was professionally done.

If you wear it, tell me how you do it?  Just under eyes?  Somewhere else?  Before or after foundation or powder?  What brand?  Any special secret (like getting a certain shade)?

Re: Makeup: Concealer

  • i only use concealer under my eyes and lately i have just been using it at the corners of my eyes avoiding the outer area because i have become wrinkle paranoid....whole other story-basically as a red head i have super thin skin and i just look better with it....very lazy-i like concealer in a pen formula so I use one from chanel.  as far as other make up goes i never use powder and lately have started using a tinted moisturizer better sun protection...hope that helps....
  • I use on under my eyes and on the occasional blemish (yes, I'm 28 years old and still get them...I think I'm doomed for life). Like Alix, I'm lazy so I like the pen kind - I still blend it in with my finger, but it's easier to dot on than the liquid kind. I put it on after moisturizer, but before powder (if it's an unusual occasion and I'm wearing foundation, I'll put it on after that - I know a lot of people do it before, but I find I get better and more natural looking coverage doing it after). Get one that's a shade lighter than your skin - it will blend better.
  • I wear it every day.  I use a Jane Iredale powder type.  I wear it under my eyes, and usually around my nose and on the tip of my nose, which usually is red.  I use it before my powder foundation.
  • I use mine the same way Lisa does...over foundation or just with powder.  Mine is also the pen kind...Revlon Colorstay and I keep it in my purse for touch-ups on a long day.

I tend to wear foundation daily...I start with Mac Professional Full Coverage and use it as a concealer for red spots, under eyes, etc.  Then I use a lightweight foundation (Maybeline H20) all over to even everything out.  It's very lightweight.

On weekends or vacation I tend to skip all that and just use my pen concealer and some mineral powder over it to even things out.  The powder is Physicians Formula Mineral Powder in Translucent.  It's convenient to keep in my purse and swipe throughout the day, as needed.

Oh, I should mention, I always start out of the shower with a sunscreen made for faces...let it soak in and then proceed with my make-up.

  • Thank you for bringing this up!  I had just said to MH yesterday that we needed to go shopping today and I needed to pick some concealer up.  But like you, I have never really used it other than when I have gotten my make-up done.  And I swear those make-up ladies think concealer is the best thing since sliced bread.  :)  But I am starting to notice some dark circles around the eye area.....best get to covering that up NOW.
