Week 1 of college football is done...

...thoughts?

Re: Week 1 of college football is done...

  • 1. Sam Bradford might be out the entire season. This literally breaks my heart - you hate to see a QB go down who decided not to go pro and goes down in his first game. This will change the ENTIRE dynamic of the season, and quite honestly, I'm not sure it'll be as fun. Unless their back-up QB - a redshirt freshman at that - pulls a Matt Cassel, it won't be the same season in the Big 12 South.

    2. One word: Blount. I'm glad he's been suspended - he needs to learn the consequences of his actions. And I'm glad he called the Boise State player to apologize. He saved face that way...a little.

    3. I'm ready for Week 2 already!

  • Hmmm...it seems that Notre Dame MAY be back and I'm not liking that one bit.

I was so hoping that Bama would lose and even though they won, I wasn't very impressed and I'm thinking (and hoping!) that they are overrated.

While I hate that Bradford is injured, I'm totally fine with Oklahoma having a down year.

I was (OF COURSE) happy to see Auburn win...even though it was LA Tech..they aren't a BAD team and it was a good win for us, great environment at Jordan Hare.

I still think the SEC is where it is at Stick out tongue

  • Two more things...

1.) Hope my pic doesn't offend anyone. The OSU-Georgia game was a fab game, and I'm still surprised we pulled it off. Georgia definitely brought it and forced us to play a new level of ball!

2.) I hope Bradford recovers...but I wouldn't mind OU having a down year, either. It'll make living in Oklahoma a little more tolerable this football season. :)

  • Aside from the heart attack I nearly had when the Badgers decided to let NIU make a game out of it in the 4th quarter, I'm happy.

I'm super excited about football (both college and pro) this year.  Maybe it's because the Brewers aren't headed to the postseason...or maybe it's because I got first pick in my fantasy draft.  Either way, I'm ready for some football!

  • My thoughts: GO BIG 12!!!  OK and Colorado are the only 2 teams that lost.  I, too, worry for Sam Bradford.  As much as I would like to see OK have a down year...I really don't want it to be at the expense of Bradford after he chose to stay at OK instead of entering the draft.

And I was PLEASANTLY surprised with Mizzou this weekend.  That game answered a lot of questions that were up in the air about our team...and most of the answers were VERY positive.

  • 1.  The SEC made a very impressive showing!  Go SEC!
    2.  For the most part, I was quite pleased with Adazzio's (Florida's new OC) debut.  Granted, it was against a Div. II (?) team, but we got to see some great speed from our RBs.  I'd like to see a bit more of our WRs next time, though...we miss you, Percy!
    3.  Florida D: y'all are supposed to be STACKED.  I don't care that y'all held CSU to 3 points...371 YARDS?!  REALLY?  Let's work on stopping the screens and slants this week, boys.
    4.  As much as I loved giving Sam Bradford a hard time last season, I hated to see him go down.  I wish him the best for a speedy recovery.

Overall, a great weekend.  I think a lot of the frustrations (on my end) were to be expected, with teams still working out some kinks and what not.  Gonna be a great season!

  • ugh, Rutgers did not look good......blah. ?I'm not a huge college football fan but DH loves his Scarlet Knights and was so excited that their kickoff game vs. Cincinnati was on ESPN today......now, I think he kind of wishes it wasn't.?

  • 1. GO SEC!!!

    2.  Angry that ESPN didn't put the UK game in ESPN 360, so I had to listen to it online.  But they kicked Miami butt, so it's ok.

    3. So sad UK's center broke his ankle and is out for the season.  He went to my high school and is friends with my sister.  It was his first start, and he was so excited about playing and starting this year.

Cinnabun and Junebug say, "Go Wildcats!"

  • ESPN360 was actually decent! 10x better than last year.

FSU/Miami made me remember why I missed football season so much. Great game!

  • First of all: I'm SO glad the season is back! I missed it while it was gone!

I feel like I have to explain myself on this one: I always root for whoever is playing OU to win. It makes me happy when OU loses. With THAT being said, I HATE, HATE, HATE it that Bradford is injured. I truly hope he makes a super speedy recovery and is right back in his position as fast as possible. I never want to see a player injured and out - especially one with as much talent and potential as Sam Bradford. The same for Gresham... I hope he recovers quickly, too. Buuut, I'm already sick of all the whiners complaining about how OU lost because they didn't have two of their star players. The way I see it is this: if you have to pin all of your hopes and dreams on two people, then you're doomed to begin with (and, I feel the same way when it comes to my own team). Shut up, suck it up, and move on.

I also really hate it that the Georgia player is out for the season due to a torn ACL when he missed all of last year to the same injury. It makes me sick.

While I'm totally THRILLED that the Cowboys won, I have to admit, I was beginning to worry. I think they've got a long ways to go before they can claim to be at the calibur of other top 10 teams. I definately don't think they played Cowboy football like they did last year. Granted, it was only the first game, but they've got to pick it up if they want to keep winning. I'm absolutely stoked about how our D looks, though! So, with a little work, I think we're headed to an amazing season!

One more thing: I LOVE upsets.

  • Obviously I'm probably going to be a little more Big 12 centered here, but I'll try to throw in some other conferences. :)

I am worried that OU might be DONE for the year.  Sam Bradford is a good kid and that makes me sad.  On the other hand, OU could be coming in to Lincoln with 3 losses under their belts -- BYU, Texas, and yes, possibly MIAMI!  Which is pretty crazy.  Not complaining one bit from Nebraska's perspective, but I still hate to see any quarterback have a season ending injury.

I think Dan Hawkins may very well be on the hot seat in Boulder.  CSU!?  We'll see how well they rebound.  They always play Nebraska tough so I'm not getting overconfident at this point.

Mizzou, well done against Illinois!  I'm curious to see how well these two teams play the rest of the season.  Blaine Gabbert commited to Nebraska initially (and left with Bill Callahan was fired), so I've been waiting to see how well he does.  Mini-Gabbert (Tyler) is committed to Nebraska as we speak.

Notre Dame - are they back?  I think Weis needs to get with it if he wants to stay on.  He's probably the second most overpayed coach in college football, with the first being Kirk Ferentz.  IOWA, you BARELY beat Northern Iowa.  If I were you, I'd be worried for Iowa State next weekend.  Yiiiikes!

Also, looks like Sarkisian might be doing some good things at Washington.  I was surprised that LSU struggled as much as they did, considering Washington won what, 1 game last year?  Get with it Les!

I agree.  On a related note, Sam Bradford would not have helped the defense hold BYU from driving down the field.

Your D looked great, very physical (it was almost like an SEC match-up Wink).  Good game.

  • No Texas Tech on TV this week (and I looked very pathetic indeed listening to the radio with the ESPN gamecast on my laptop watching those little red lines go back and forth...) but overall a fairly good week for the Big12.

SO happy to see OSU beat Georgia. Any chance I get to watch a Big12 team spank an SEC team makes me happy!

SO sad to see Sam Bradford go down. Every report I've read has been conflicting. He's out for two weeks, he's out for the season, I still have no idea. I'm guessing he'll come back JUST in time for the Tech game at the end of the season - just our luck! I do want him to come back and play soon though.

SO NOT happy to see OU lose. And so disappointed in my fellow Big12 fans celebrating the victory. (Texas Fans and TTU fans especially!) What they're not getting is that we need all the Big12 teams to succeed, even the thugs at OU ;) That way when WE play them, the announcers won't say "Well yeah, but OU isn't good this year anyway..."

Overall just so happy to have football season back that I could cry!

  • All I gotta say is, that FSU-Miami game last night was NUTS.

And the new AP poll is even crazier.

I agree.  I am pro - Big 12.  As much as I HATE KU, I still like to see them win. I have come to dislike OU over the last couple of years since we (Mizzou) keep getting spanked by them, but I still like to see the Big 12 teams be successful.

I'm not sure. It's kind of strange to see a bunch of people (outside of this area) pulling for OSU when I'm used to being in the minority against Sooner fans. But, I like it! I just hope we don't pick up the ignorant, arrogant bandwagoners.

Hope I didn't come across as laughing at the Pokes fans!  I think it's great -- just very random.  Smile

No! Not at all! I think it's great, too! It's just really strange to suddenly see all these people who actually like Oklahoma State, now! Usually it's OU being shoved down our throats.

  • haha, thanks girls!

and just for the record, I am a true Pokes fan and alum, (2004!) not a bandwagoner.  Tho as much as they suck, it's kind of fun to have a team good enough to actually attract the bandwagon fans.  What?  they think OU won't be any good this year?

YAY for Cowboy Alums! Personally, I think it's funny (about the bandwagoners)... for example: my uncle has always been a die-hard OU fan. ALWAYS. And, he's the arrogant kind... (the kind who give Okies a bad name when they're on TV - beer gut, beer in hand, ratty clothes, etc) the kind who thinks he knows EVERYTHING about the school, yet if you plopped him in the middle of the Norman campus, he wouldn't have any idea where he was. Anyhow, his daughter is a fresh. as O-State this year. All this time he's been ragging on OSU and blah blah blah. Come Saturday, he goes with us to Stillwater (he didn't have tickets to the game, was just going to tailgate). He and his wife went to WalMart to pick up a couple of things for the tailgate and he comes back WITH OSU CLOTHES ON. Jersey, hat, and all. We were flabbergasted. While I always like to convert people over to the great OK State team, it was still unsettling!
