New to the board and have a question

Hi Ladies, I mostly post on D&R and MM, but was told to try my local board for this. DH and I will be moving out of our current home on July 2nd and not moving into the new house until the end of July. So, we will need to move out, store items for about a month and then move in. Any recommendations for movers? Did you rent a truck and a storage unit seperately or did you do a package (like PODs)? Any recommendations (or places to avoid) is much appreciated. TIA!!!

Re: New to the board and have a question

  • Hi, welcome to the board!

I haven't done this yet, but we are in a similar situation and we will be renting a storage facility in Topeka to store stuff while we move. We looked into PODS, but it was hella expensive! We found a storage place for about $50/month, which I think is pretty decent. And we have friends helping us move it, so we aren't renting a truck. I know that's probably not too much help...

  • We haven't had to do this, but I would think renting a storage unit would be cheaper than getting a PODS. Since you'll only need it for a month and a half, you could probably get a "first month for $XX" deal and come out pretty cheap. As for moving trucks, we had my dad help us move stuff, so we've never used movers before.

  • I've never used either option, but a couple of friends have actually used Two Men and a Truck - I guess they were reasonable enough.

I loved Two Men and a Truck. We actually used TLC Movers out of Columbia when we lived in St. Louis, but both are great movers. TLC wasn't too overly expensive either, but that's been 5-6 years ago....

  • I know u-haul.com has a bunch of local movers and has review so you can see how reliable they are and their prices... they might also have storage unit on there too.
