Orlando nurses?

Hi ladies!  I'm a new grad RN from Minnesota and DH and I are considering moving for a job for me.  I received a call back from a recruiter at Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital and I'm wondering if any of you have helpful information on the area, the hospital...etc?  I would really appreciate it.  TIA!

Re: Orlando nurses?

  • I worked at ORMC the main hospital in the ER- I am not a nurse so i can not tell you how the nursing side of it is. But It is a really great organization. The benefits are awesome, or they were last year. I worked there in '08. The insurance is fairly cheap. APH is a great childrens hospital. A friend of mine's neice is actually their right now. They have a great ER and they have a level 1 trauma center (I believe). G/L!!!

  • Oh, i forgot. If you are planning on renting at first alot of the apartment complexes in the area offer discounts if you work for the ORH organization. My step mom is a RN at the main hospital on the cardiac floor. Her, my dad, and my sister just moved into a brand new apt complex about 3 blocks from the hospital and she said they get a discount there. The area is okay. Personally I hate downtown but i'm a small town girl and don't enjoy the big city. The apt complex they just moved into is SODO orlando   http://www.zomrent.com/loftsatsodo/main-page.asp       The apts are really nice.

  • I live just a couple miles from Arnold Palmer, and it's a great location. If you want to live near the hospital, there are some great neighborhoods nearby (including some pretty affordable options). If you want to live in another area, the hospital is centrally located, right near downtown and close to I-4 and the 408. There have been a number of new businesses opening in the area, and even though the recession has hit home prices hard, I feel like overall it's a strong neighborhood with a lot of long-time residents and the area has a good future.

As for Arnold Palmer itself, I don't have any inside information on it, but everything I've heard about it has been positive. My husband is going to school for nursing now, and it's one of the places he's said he might like to work someday.

    Good luck with everything!
