Greenville Hole in the Wall
I have lived in the upstate all my life and love most things about the area. This summer we won't be able to afford a vacation so I we were hoping to just do some things around here! (Here can be anything in driving distance not just greenville...like southwestern NC and various parts of SC...maybe even Ga) just nothing that'd have to be overnight (since we have to pay to board the dogs, hotel room ect)
So... I was hoping maybe you guys could suggest some places and things for us to do. The more of a hole in the wall the better. Free? EVEN BETTER! just throw out some ideas of fun things!
Thanks in advance!
Re: Greenville Hole in the Wall
Have you been to YMCA's Camp Greenville? There are some beautiful views, including "pretty place chapel" http://www.campgreenville.org/chapel.htm
We are new to the area so all these places and activities that are new and exciting to us are probably old hat to you but we've enjoyed taking picnics to falls park and spending an afternoon walking the trails, or eating at Mary's at falls park (only open 11-2pm).
We often check out the festivals going on downtown, there are concerts etc that are usually free downtown in the summer. In Simpsonville at the ampetheater they are building they are going to be having free movie night where you can take your blanket and lay out on the grass and watch a movie.
We also occasionally go fishing at lake Hartwell I believe it is called (between here and atlanta.)
We have enjoyed a few trips to the zoo.
We have also gone to Frankie's Fun Park a few times to waste a few hours at batting cages, mini golf, etc. http://www.frankiesfunpark.com/greenville/
I've not been before, but there is a "Discovery Island Waterpark" http://www.gcrd.org/discoveryisland/.
If you don't mind a LONG day away from home and have someone who can at least let your dogs out to go to the bathroom while you are gone, you could do a daytrip to Charleston.
Anyway you've been here your whole life and I'm new to the area so I probably didn't tell you anything new, but I hope you all find some inexpensive ways to spend your free-time this summer!
