how did you enjoy kipona? DH & I got down there around 12 on Saturday for the chili cookoff and we were pretty disappointed. There were a few that were "out" when we were there but we tried all the other ones and there was only one that I thought was decent. There were definitely a lot less competitors than the last few years.  We walked up the street trying to find something to actually eat (we usually have soo many tastes that we're gorged so we decided to do one cup to share this year and if we liked any we'd get another) and nothing popped out at us so we ended up going to Arooga's for lunch lol.

Re: teddybearjk2009

  • We had a good time- a few of our friends were doing abunch of canoe races, so most of our day was spent cheering them on (which didn't seem to help- they came in last in all but one of their races! at least they had fun.).

I agree with you about the food- we got some of the fresh cut sweet potato fries, which were good, but finding dinner was hard, especially since DH is a vegetarian. Usually at those festivals there is a felaffel (sp?) at the greek stands, but he could only find one, and it was way expensive.  We ended up going up the street to get Arepas, which was way cheaper and really really good!  Let me know next time your in Harrisburg wanting some good chili- DH's vegetarian bean chili is SOOOOO good!

I think once we have kids and the family section with all the rides and things applies to us, it will be a much better festival for us.  We really enjoyed a lot of the bands, though, especially the ones on the stage by the Civic Club.
