to reply to you bridal shower question. I did not personally have one (I decided to get married very last-minute and moved 3 states away from my BFFs + they threw me a rocking baby shower)....but one of my BFFs got married in April. There were 4 of us BMs, but we contributed $420/a piece for her shower. Granted, we had it at The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach which is like as close to as nice a place as you can get anywhere in the world, but my other friends thought that was crazy. It's so expensive to be a BM, I swear!!! (Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I have been drinking, which I don't do often :)

Re: *mamie*

  • Thanks for responding. Maybe I'll pass along that figure to my friend to make it seem better in comparison. Friend is comparing this shower to mine - miy BMs and my moms contributed $50 which gave me a pretty shower at my MOH's house AND a b-party party complete with $60 left for me to drink with.

Friend's friend's shower is for 67 people at a restaurant venue, but I told friend there are ways to cut down on invite, decor, and favor costs.

  • Wow! I am jealous that you (your friend) can do 67 people at a restaurant for $200/BM! I think that is a really good value. We did brunch for 16 ladies and it was like $2000. I know when my friends did my baby shower, I think it was around the same for them, $300-$500 apiece between 3 of them (including invites, postage, decor, favors, cakes etc etc). And that was lunch with 3 entree options, 2 salad options and alcohol, (not for me though, haha) at a nice restaurant for like 40 people.

I have been in 4 weddings and they all have cost me over $1000 between showers, dresses, shoes, bachelorette parties, limos hotel rooms for bach parties, plane tickets, hotel rooms for weddings, etc etc...it's not easy financially that's for sure. (another reason we decided against having a bridal party for ours.)?

  • Hot damn! I think we must do just do things on the simple and cheap here. :) When I tallied how much it cost me to be a BM three years ago it was about $400 total. I'm now thinking I got off easy. I would say that's how much my BMs spent too, even though my dresses were cheaper, but a lot of them got screwed on alteration prices.
